Bevlyn’s Thoughts: We Could Be In Love

“Today is our 85th month together, I promise to take care of you for the rest of our lives… No one else knows me better than you do… you understand my hopes and my dreams…”

Randy’s heartfelt speech to his bride drove Sheryl to her tears. The wedding banquet marked the 85th month the couple had been together, which came up to a long 7-year marathon!

The 1st march-in is a well-orchestrated one. The special song, titled “We could be in love” is a song I love very much:



As a token of gratitude to their parents, Sheryl and Randy dedicated "我只在乎你" (You Matter to Me) to them. It’s interesting to note that I usually see many guests singing along with me when I sing this song.

The couple also dedicated “Angel” (Robbie William) to their sisters and brothers who have helped them in one way or another to make their wedding a great success. In their own words, “You’ll are our angels of tonight”.

Our heartiest congratulations to Randy and Sheryl once again. May you have countless 85 months to share with each other!

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: We Could Be In Love

Imelda, Adeline and I had a fantastic time at Azhar and Sri's wedding!

The evening got off to a great start when we met Azhar's friend, Yasser, who made sure our every need was taken care of. He even took some food from the buffet line and asked us to help ourselves during our break!

I was glad to finally meet Azhar, as we had communicated over numerous e-mails to determine which march-in song was most suitable for his sword-bearers. I was honoured that he trusted my recommendation so much, as he chose the one I picked. Here it is:


Imelda and I also enjoyed singing "We Could Be In Love" and the Spanish version of "Lucky". It felt good to challenge ourselves with new songs every now and then. The applause from the audience as we delivered these songs was reward enough.

We also knew that many members of the audience could sing, so we invited two guys (one of whome was Yasser) onstage to perform. In fact, Yasser ended the night's performance with a rousing, full-throated version of the Sinatra classic "My Way". He brought the house down!

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Embraceable You

After many days of torrential rains and once-in-50-years floods, Peak Yuen and Jonathan woke up to sunny skies on the day of their wedding. They must have prayed quite hard, because the weather held up wonderfully, throughout the solemnisation ceremony held just outside the East India Room.

After the ceremony, guests adjorned to the East India Room, and began their lunch buffet. Together with Justin and Boon Chye, I started first with a set of jazz standards. There were nods of appreciation, but I wanted to engage the audience a bit more.

During our break, I quickly announced that the second march-in was 甜蜜蜜 (Honey Sweet), and invited the guests to sing along with me. They readily obliged, so Peak Yuen and Jonathan were treated to a rousing welcome as they walked into the ballroom.

Feeling cheeky, I invited Jonathan to serenade Peak Yuen with 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart). I was second-time lucky when Jonathan agreed without a moment's hesitation. The crowd responded with loud and appreciative applause.

Thank you, Peak Yuen and Jonathan, for being so sporting. Congratulations again on getting married, and may you both enjoy a blissful marriage.

Esther and I would like to say a big big thank you to Huibing, Ivan and Ian for giving us such beautiful memories on our wedding night.

To be frank, I was very nervous and worried before the rehearsal as I had not met up with the band before. All that went away when I saw Huibing's bright smile, the professionalism of Ian and the romantic saxophone masterclass by Ivan. I'm truly honoured and proud to be able to perform together with the band. Thank you for fulfilling my own little dream of singing a love song to Esther.

We reserved our special praise for Huibing. Her voice is so mesmerizing! Her rendition of "Sometimes When We Touch" really touched our heart and my eyes were filled with tears of happiness when she sang the song. Her version of 世界唯一的你 was so captivating that we stopped half way through the photo-taking session just to enjoy her wonderful performance. I really wish we had more time sitting down and enjoy the whole performance.

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Accidentally In Love

My job is to document the memorable highlights of each wedding, but I drew a blank when I started to write about Marvin and Yihong's wedding.

Not that there weren't anything to write. On the contrary, where do I begin?

Even before the guests entered the ballroom, they could tell it was not going to be a conventional celebration. The bridesmaids and groomsmen were unbelievably united and colour-coordinated. The ladies wore well-cut dresses in the same shade as Tiffany boxes (the colour that sets many female hearts a-flutter), while the guys wore matching ties of a slightly darker shade. The bridesmaids were tending to a candy corner, which drew the kids and even some adults. Rows of cupcakes were placed enticingly round a little tower, and there were candies and cookies galore!

Once the wedding celebrations started, the guests were treated to a stunning slideshow of photos by One Eye Click. Through a series of photographs, the couple re-enacted how they first met each other (apparently under less than favourable circumstances), how they fell in love, and even Marvin's reaction when Yihong accepted his proposal (the shot was of Marvin 3 feet in the air, with a look of utter jubilation on his face)

The band also assisted to create some memorable moments. The second march-in was a rousing number, "Accidentally In Love", and the couple rode into the cavernous ballroom in a Vespa. Yihong even ditched the traditional cocktail number and wore white pants instead. The place where the Vespa was parked also became a favourite spot for photo-taking later in the afternoon.

Another touching moment was the couple's first dance, which was to the band's rendition of "So Close". It felt as if the scene from the movie "Enchanted" was re-played, only there was no witch to spoil the proceedings. As the song progressed, several more couples joined in.

Finally, this blog entry would not be complete without mentioning Marvin's surprise performance of L-O-V-E. This man was so sure and confident of himself, he didn't even practice with the band. His band of brothers were his backup singers and dancers, but Marvin didn't need any help at all. When the music started, he merrily danced and sang without missing a beat or note.

Congratulations Marvin and Yihong! It was a pleasure to perform at your wedding. Hope to see you both very soon!

Junxiong's thoughts: 爱爱 (Love Love)

After 5 full years of courtship, ShunYuan & LiYing finally tied their knot together on this very day! Though this wedding couple is a little shy and reserved, they could never hide their happiness from their beaming smiles throughout the night.

The songs chosen by the couple were also very applauded and well-received by the guests. One Chinese love song 爱爱 is especially popular among the guests which easily caught their attention with the up-tempo rhythm and catchy tune. I guess it also subtly describes their feelings for each other:

"让我做你Baby吧愿不愿意, 让我做你老公吧可不可以, 用这首歌当成媒人, 把我和你绑在一起.."

There is another memorable scene during the traditional "yum-seng" session: the sisters were trying real hard to outshine the brother's yum-seng cheerings! That really brought some laughters to all and adds on fun to the entire toasting session.

Apart from this, we also had a little pleasant encounter with the wedding guests: a 9-yr old boy who is still learning pinao was strongly mesmerized by Adeline's (our pianist) keyboard skills, frequently popping by throughout our performance (perhaps it's time to setup a fan-club, Adeline?).

The lyrics of "All I Want Is You" kept ringing in my head after Shawn and Sherrie's exuberant wedding celebration.

Shawn serenaded his lovely bride Sherrie with this song, and even prepared a special video (with the song lyrics running in the background) which was played during his surprise performance.

I'm afraid I can't give you much comment from Sherrie and myself as we were not around most of the time! However, many of our guests have given us much positive feedback! =)

We were a little apprehensive on a 3-piece band as we were working on a tight budget and were concerned about the music sounding a little "thin" with only one keyboard. However, James did great and pulled off great accompaniment music! Also, your vox was terrific as well and Tanya complemented the whole band as well.

In general, we were very pleased and the crowd loved the timeless classics like "月亮代表我的心." The band really added another dimension to our wedding.

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: A Fairy-tale Wedding

Junkai and Ziwei got acquainted in Junior College. They started off as pen-pals; Junkai was the "angel", writing letters to Ziwei, aka the "mortal". Thus began the angel-mortal story.


The couple's wedding was unique in the sense that every song had a specific purpose in relating their love story. Take the first song for instance. It was "Guardian Angel", and as I started singing, the door opened to reveal a little boy, who walked onstage and deposited an envelope into a letter box. As I went on, a little girl appeared, took and letter and opened it. That was the cue for Junkai and Ziwei to enter the ballroom!

There was a song to represent every stage of their relationship. In fact, the song titles themselves are self-explanatory. From "The First Time" to "Safe In A Crazy World" (they are both teachers) to "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You". They also dedicated songs to their friends, and even included an original song, 只为那爱我愿 (I'm Willing Because Of that Love), which sang of love for their alma mater!

Congratulations Junkai and Ziwei! Thank you for giving us this truly unique experience. Hope to meet the both of you again very soon!

Hui Bing’s Thoughts: 暖暖 (Warm)

Zhuo Jian and Peiling loves songs by Fish Leong (梁静如) so the entire songlist was peppered with the Malaysian pop princess’s songs – 5 in all! I thoroughly enjoyed singing these songs - some of them popular karaoke hits, such as 勇氣 (Courage) and Fly Away.

Linus and I were deeply encouraged by the warm response from guests – thanks to the excellent sound that the hotel provided that night, complete with a spotlight! A guest came up and complimented us on the wide variety of repertoire that we were able to present. Ang, the couple's photographer, also thought our march-in was from a CD, and these comments made my day.

What was also special – the occasional smiles and looks the couple exchanged with us while they walked around the ballroom. We were really glad that our presence had made a difference to the wedding ambience.

Bevlyn's thoughts: I Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)

This has to be one of the coolest wedding I've been to.

Niki and Zhi Heng got to know each other from school, but Cupid didn't have its armour strong enough back then to light the fire between the two. Upon graduation, they went separate ways - Niki flew and Zhi Heng sailed. It was only some years later when they caught up with each other again, that sparks flew. One thing they had in common is, they love to skate.

And what better way to demonstrate this common interest which binds them together, than to SKATE-IN!! Instead of the traditional wedding march-in, the couple had a 'skate-in', as in literally, they entered the ballroom on their rollerblades. I picked up skating only recently, and I was really wowed by how they managed to skate on the carpet! Niki told me later it was really tough especially toward the end, but honestly I wouldn't have guess from the captivating smiles on their faces!

Niki and Zhi Heng skated round the ballroom, then a real 3-tier wedding cake was pushed into the ballroom. This cake was special because it was made by a good friend, but also because the friend managed to design a device to rotate the couple figurine on top of the cake!


After cutting the cake, Zhi Heng took a flag in one hand, and with his other hand holding Niki's hand, both of them skated round the ballroom again to thunderous cheers and applause. What a lovely sight. And what other better "cruising" song to skate-in than this song "I Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)". Some of you may remember this song as the song from the "Gatsby" advertisement:


We also sang a song "That's What Friends Are For" to dedicate to the couples' friends on their behalf. But the songs most well-received are the mandarin songs like "每天爱你多一些" (Loving You More Each Day), "追" (Chase), "小夫妻" (Little Couple) etc.

Definitely a smashing wedding! Congratulations once again from A Little Dream!!

Bevlyn's thoughts: Come Fly With Me

27 Oct 2009 not only marked Ing Jen and Ashley's 5th year anniversary together, it also turned a page to the next chapter of their love life - as husband and wife. They met in Hawaii' as they went to the same university, did homework together at Starbucks, and eventually fell in love with each other. In the couples' own words:

Jen: The moment I saw her felt that she is the one and the more I get to know her I knew I was correct for the start. She is exceptionally beautiful both on the outside and inside…. She is more of the most amazing person I have met.

Ashley: The longer I spend time with him, I was quite certain that he is the one who I’ve been waiting for. We took care of each other while we study in Hawaii’ and made a lot of lovely memories. We had long distance relationship after Jen graduated and went back to Singapore. During that period, our relationship grew stronger and made me feel once again how important he is in my life.

The band started off by dedicating the song "I Owe You" by Lee Greenwood to Ashley's mother, on behalf of Ashley. It is a song really suitable to dedicate to parents:


The couple also shared a photo montage of their wedding reception in Korea, and for their 3rd march-in, the couple was dressed in the Korean  traditional wedding costumes, a rare sight to behold here in Singapore.

My Mum loved the song that you dedicated on behalf of me, “I owe you”. 2^nd march-in song, “Come fly with me” was so beautiful and I could not stop smiling during the march-in. Especially, “No body” really made everyone so excited. Some of my friends are getting married next year and I will definitely recommend “A Little Dream” for their most important day.  You were really a great vocalist as well as emcee.

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Because Of You

I was very glad to note that the audience seemed to enjoy the new songs, which included 只因为你 (Because of You), 为你写诗 (I Wrote a Poem for You), 爱是力量 (Love Gives Me Strength), 爱情 (Love), 爱转角 (Love Turns a Corner), and 另一个天堂 (The Other Heaven).  Ein Ein even helped me with 另一个天堂 (The Other Heaven), which is a duet.  As before, I could sense the audience listening intently to Ein Ein's dulcet vocals.

Apart from the refreshing song list, the highlight of the wedding was a surprise birthday present for Phil.  It was actually Phil's birthday.  Esther cheekily said, "It's my husband's birthday today!  For once, I didn't buy him a present because I'm his present!"  She added, "Phil, I'm going a sing you a song called 生日快乐 (Happy Birthday)!"

Ein Ein and I told we were going to perform the song on Esther's behalf, but we sprang into action upon hearing Esther's announcement.  As 生日快乐 (Happy Birthday) is sung by Sky Wu, a male vocalist, we had to quickly find a key that suited Esther.  This was literally done within seconds!  Esther's impromptu performance drew loud cheers and a sweet kiss and hug from Phil.

I couldn't resist springing a little surprise of my own for Esther.  After knowing that Esther had wanted Phil to propose to her at Disneyland, I decided to dedicate "A Whole New World" to her, even though it wasn't in the song list.  I believed Esther and Phil enjoyed the song!

Congratulations Esther and Phil!  Thank you so much for engaging us.  May your marriage be filled with many sweet surprises, kisses and hugs!

Judy's Thoughts: We've Only Just Begun

When I stepped into the Straits Room of the Fullerton Hotel, the stunning decor just took my breath away.  The ballroom was pure white, with a high ceiling reminiscent of a cathedral.  Each table had pink candles, in line with the colour theme of a pink and fushcia blend.  The ballroom looked really pretty in those colours.  It made me feel all pure, innocent, and put me right in the mood for romance...lovely!

There was also a little pink card at every table for guests to write their wishes/blessings to the couple.  The cards were then collected by the couple for them to keep as mementoes.  I even wrote on a pink card myself! :)

The performance went really smoothly, and we were actually just ahead of schedule - something that doesn't happen very often in Chinese wedding receptions.  I had a great time performing with Boon Chye and Matthew, and the songs were really lovely.  Jason and Yen Ping selected mostly familiar favourites, coupled with some new songs which are less often heard at weddings.  Take a listen by clicking the videos below, and see if you would like to select them for your wedding.

We were thankful for the appreciative applause from the couple and their guests.  I remember noticing the look of joy on both Jason and Yen Ping's faces as we sang.

Bevlyn's Thoughts: 甜甜的 (Sweet)

Magenta and Chin Hong had arranged for a violinist, Lin Hui, to perform violin solo during the cocktail session to welcome their guests to the wedding. And then almost as if to usher the crowd into the ballroom, the band was scheduled to start singing 2 songs at 8pm. And sure enough, 2 songs after, the 1st march-in occured shortly.

With Jixiang on guitar, Shawn on percussion, and I on the vocals, we entertained the guests mainly with the crowd-pleasing classics chosen by Magenta and Chin Hong. I especially enjoyed 在你身边 (By Your Side), and the nostalgic 新谣 (folk song) 关怀方式 (The Way Of Caring):





The couple dedicated "月亮代表我的心" (The Moon Represents My Heart) to their parents, and "That's What Friends Are For" to their friends and helpers for helping out. In return, I dedicated "Wonderful Tonight" to Magenta, because she really looked gorgeous that evening!


Thank you Chin Hong and Magenta, we had a great time performing to your guests and here's wishing you a marriage always filled with simple joy in life!! Congratulations!

The first thing I noticed about this wedding was that it was huge! There were 129 tables in total --- definitely the biggest wedding crowd I've ever performed for.

Kevin was very conscientious and considerate. He made sure Rose had enough time to rest and prepare, while he rehearsed the march-in alone with us. He also made sure we were well-taken care.

I enjoyed the set list very much; it was a good mix of English and Chinese love songs, and it was great to perform with Junxiong after such a long time. My first wedding performance with A Little Dream was with him!

As there were soooo many guests, Kevin had to 'apologise' for not being able to speak to everyone during his speech. The couple were also astute enough to start taking table photos right at the beginning of the dinner, and not wait until after second march-in.

Kudos to Kevin and Rose for 'working' really hard the whole night. They constantly on their feet, going to every table to make sure everyone was attended to.

When it was time for our last song, Junxiong and I sang In Love With You, and we found out later that it was Kevin's favourite song. Still I think the most suitable song for their wedding is none other than the classic 玫瑰玫瑰我爱你 (Rose Rose I Love You)

Imelda's thoughts: 小夫妻 (Little Couple)

Villa Halia was one of the venues I had considered for my own wedding. Nestled in the middle of the Ginger Gardens at Singapore Botanic Gardens, this rustic restaurant was indeed a perfect place to have a cosy wedding party. Even though I didn’t have my wedding at Villa Halia eventually, I’m glad I was invited to perform for Nick and Cherry at this very venue.

3 October 2009 was the Mid Autumn festival, and in olden days, carrying lanterns during the Mid Autumn festival was a time for lovers to gather and for singles to meet their prospective mates. Hence, it is also known to be a “Valentine’s Day” of sorts for us Chinese. Nick and Cherry had chosen this very day to mark the first day of their lives together as a 小夫妻 (little couple).

The evening started with a drizzle but as it turned out, this Mid-Autumn festival had the heavens smiling upon this special couple. Not only did the rain stop in due time, it had actually cooled the air significantly. The weather was perfect and there weren’t even the usual post-rain mosquitoes!

Nick and Cherry are such a sweet and unassuming couple. Throughout the entire dinner, Nick came round to check on us a few times to make sure everything was ok, and every time he had instructions for us, he was polite, humble and unnecessarily apologetic about minor delays. Cherry was always all smiles, and for such a sweet looking girl, she sure looked hot in her chilli red evening gown, totally spicy and appropriate for her wedding night in the ginger gardens.

Just after our first performance set, Nick surprised Cherry with a special photo montage. More than that, he had actually taken two piano lessons (from scratch) with James to learn to play a song for Cherry. Nick’s rendition of 爱很简单 (Love Is Very Simple) was the shortest but definitely the most sincere performance I’ve ever seen. As he struggled to remember the last bar of the chorus, Cherry hugged her new husband and told him that it was alright, that it was his heart that mattered most to her.

As Nick and Cherry presented their parents with bouquets towards the end of the evening, Cherry in her very chirpy voice, and in between joyous sobs, said “Papa, Mama… I know I’m not the easiest child to bring up… but I thank you for these 28 years that you’ve spent nurturing me….oops, now everyone knows how old I am… From today on, I will be the best wife and mother that I can be.”

To one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever met, 小夫妻 – Nick and Cherry, may you be each others’ blessing (福气) for many wonderful years to come. God Bless!

10月3号是个星期六，但不是一般的 周六。因为这一天也是农历八月十五，代表着月圆人团圆的中秋节！

往年的这个节日，相信大家都跟我们一样，都会跟家人度过，边吃月饼，边聊天，边喝茶，边赏月；很幸福。

而在2009年的今天，我们过了一个很不一样的中秋节； 我们很荣幸的能够在这一天，跟在场的宾客们，一起分享一对新人-学顺和碧芬幸福的喜悦。

第一眼见到新郎学顺时，脑海想到两个字：沉稳。婚礼开始前，还能够从容地与他的“帮手”讨论最后的细节，一点也不慌张。

在大家的引颈长盼下，新人在榕庭的“A Moment Like This”声中第一次入席。对！很少唱英文歌的榕庭，把这首歌的第一次献给了他们。*shy*

那晚除了忙着献歌给这对新人还有在场的宾客，我们也忙着拍照。咦？怎么一个忙着弹键盘，一个忙着唱歌，还可以拍照？哈哈！是这样子的啦，那晚的摄影师也曾在自己的婚礼，请了A Little Dream的 Hsin Yeow and Huibing表演。所以，我们也托了他们的福，当了一晚的“明星”享受短暂的闪光灯下的日子！哈哈！而那晚的宾客们也很用心地听每一首歌。尽管美食当前，还是会放下筷子鼓掌，让我们倍觉窝心。

当然也少不了当晚的主角-学顺与碧芬。 尽管给我们的感觉很腼腆，但是不难从他们对望的眼神中，看出他们已找到彼此生命中的那一个，专属天使。

Bevlyn's Thoughts: 当我八十岁 (When I Am 80)

I read it on newspapers recently that it is getting more popular for young couples to take pre-wedding photos abroad, and Calvin and Grace did just that! Before the lovely couple marched into the ballroom, the guests were shown a series of breathtaking pre-wedding photos the couple had taken in Venice, Italy. Here's some for your preview!


It was a wedding luncheon, and I thought the songs handpicked by Calvin and Grace were most appropriate to entertain their guests - a good mixture of jazz, pop and mandarin pop. The upbeat jazz numbers, especially their 1st march-in song "It Had To Be You" set the swingy mood for the afternoon, and we continued this mood for a while with songs like "Let There Be Love", "La Vie En Rose" etc. One song I love in particular to learn and sing for this wedding is "I'll Follow You Into The Dark". Calvin and Grace gave me appreciative applause after our rendition, but really, we enjoyed the song as much too!


Calvin had earlier asked me to perform my original "当我八十岁" (When I'm 80) right after his speech, for reasons he did not share with me. It was only later that I got to know the reason. To end his speech, he looked at Grace lovingly and said, "I will still love you and dote on you when we're 80 years old". That, is probably the message I wanted to convey when I first wrote the song :)


Thank you Calvin and Grace for all the good memories of your wedding celebration. We wish you all the love and happiness and many more blissful years to come!
