Bevlyn's Thoughts: White Christmas

"We studied the same course in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Electrical Engineering and happened to join the same CCA. During our first year in the poly, we got lots of chances to interact and study together. Throughout the first year, we got to know each other better and grown fond of each other. On 18 January 2000, Jason popped the question " Will you be my girlfriend?" while studying in the computer lab. Xueying's reply "OK lor, but got 6 months probation." That's when we started..."

Jason must have passed the probation with flying colours; 8 years on, Jason and Xue Ying finally became husband and wife. The wedding lunch was an enjoyable one with the guests' enthusiastic applause, and incidentally, I had a friend among the guests!

Our talented violinist Shou-jie is also back from his studies in London, and I was more than ecstatic to be able to perform with him again. It was hard for me to hide my shock when I first saw him with his long hair and moustache. Joel termed that 'artistic'. Looks like Joel and I have to try harder in that department to if we want to match him. :)

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

In June this year, Thomas dropped me an e-mail,

"Hi! My wife and I are looking for a live band who can help us entertain our guests and make our wedding a memorable event. We visited your website and found you cool!"

Several e-mails later, I was intrigued to learn that Thomas and Joanne had chosen to hold their wedding lunch inside an underground chamber called the Bugis Vault, instead of the main ballroom of Hotel InterContinental.


The brick walls and warm colours gave me a cosy feeling as I made my way down the flight of steps that led to the Vault. Indeed, the venue is suitable for an intimate gathering of friends and family.

To warm up the crowd, Thomas and Joanne asked Judy and Clarence to perform a few carols. Even though it was 2 days after Christmas, everyone was still feeling the spirit, and sang along with Judy.


Being adept at building rapport with the audience, Judy captured the guests' attention with her stage presence and husky vocals. Clarence's solid playing gave the songs a rhythmic, acoustic spin, and contributed to the joyous, buoyant mood. Exactly what Thomas and Joanne had in mind six months ago.

Hui Bing's thoughts - All I Want For Christmas Is You

It was a wedding that I would love to attend as a guest, for the speeches by Su-Anne, Kaay Juan, and their cousins were not only humorous, but also revealed interesting insights into their 13-year long courtship and life.

Indeed, as Su-Anne said, "They have the 3 most important things in life – family, friends and love", it was evident that the couple is very much well-loved by their family members and friends as they not just listened, by participated in their speeches, as they cheered, interjected and shouted words of love and encouragement.

Su-Anne had to dunk down two glasses of champagne during her thank-you speech, prompting the emcee, Kay, one of my favourite deejays at FM 88.3 to quip, "That’s the Su-Anne we know. Any excuse to drink!"

Kaay Juan is dialect-illiterate but he wanted to address Su-Anne’s grandma so he had practised this phrase in Hokkein the entire day - "I will take good care of Su-Anne forever". Though it may not be pitch-accurate, the love and commitment in his declaration was unmistakable and I could see Su-Anne’s grandmother beaming from ear to ear.

Hi Kaay Juan and Su-Anne, may your lives continue to be filled with love, happiness and joy. Congratulations!

Jonathan's thoughts: Christmas Is Coming...

"Christmas is coming, Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat!"

Jazzed-up arrangements of Christmas carols were heard over three nights as A Little Dream entertained patrons of a restaurant at Far East Square with a set of Christmas carols and jazz standards.

With Shawn on the djembe, Feri and myself added more funk and reggae to our playing. It started out rather quiet, but after a few numbers, we managed to get some people's attention. Best of all, 2 or 3 groups stopped to listen to us, then walked into the restaurant for dinner!

Loved the acoustics of the place and the atmosphere we created. It really felt as if Christmas was just around the corner. Can't wait to sink my teeth into a sumptuous Christmas dinner...

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: All I Want Is You

I hurried to Angeline and Navin's wedding celebration at Pan Pacific after Martin and Ying's reception at Raffles House, because I wanted to meet Angeline in person.

I had corresponded with Angeline for so long, I wanted to put a face to the name. When I finally met Angeline, it was as if we had known each other for a long time. Her dazzling smile matched her ebullient personality, and she put me at ease immediately.

Both Angeline and Navin were surprised and happy to see me, and were full of praise for the band.

Indeed, I could not resist singing a few duets with Serene, so excited was I by the excellent music provided by Daniel and Jonathan!

Before I left, I went to catch up with Liz and Jansen, who introduced us to Angeline and Navin. It was great to see them again, more than a year after performing at their wedding. I was flattered that they remembered our performance so clearly, and thought of us the moment they heard that Angeline was looking for a wedding band. Thank you, Liz and Jansen!
