At The Beginning...
To start you off, here are our answers to your burning questions.
And do read our quick round up of 2008.
Pine Court at Meritus Mandarin is one of my favourite wedding venues - for its warm service, grand decor and unique tiered structure. And also for its excellent sound system as well. Ein and I had a ball performing the songs that Lauryn and Justin have selected for that evening. Particularly, the Mandarin classics were a great hit with the guests.
Among the evening's highlights is Lauryn and Justin's pre-wedding montage, featuring them in numerous outfits and exquisitely beautifully backdrops, from a Greek Hall to a swing in a lush garden. I think it is one of the nicest indoor photo shoot that I ever seen. Lauryn's cousin Joel also sang two songs, a duet "小酒窝" (Your Dimples) and Jacky Cheung's Cantonese hit "你的名字我的姓氏" (Your Name, My Surname). Joel looked as if he just stepped out of a Korean idol drama series - he looked quite dashing with his cool dress sense and hairstyle. He sang the two songs really well to much applause.
Once again, our congratulations to Lauryn and Justin!
Band: Hui Bing & Ein Ein
Repertoire:
Fallen, La Vie En Rose, 小酒窝 (Your Dimples), 你的名字我的姓氏 (Your Name, My Surname), 给我一个吻 (A Kiss for Me), 甜蜜蜜 (Sweetness), 爱很简单 (Love is Simple), 我只在乎你 (You Matter to Me), 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represent My Heart), Fly Me To The Moon, Lover's Concerto, Eyes On Me, If We Hold On Together, LOVE, A Love That Will Last, My Cherie Amour, There'll You Be, Everything, Quando Quando Quando, C'est Si Bon, Cant Take My Eyes Off You, The Greatest Gift of All, The Way You Look Tonight, So Nice
I met up with Shanyi in Feb earlier this year to find out more about the wedding song she wanted me to write for her hubby Zijie. Listening to their love story, and meeting and hearing her for myself definitely helped me to capture their personalities, which is critical for creation of the song :)
Time flashed by - I came up with the song, she filled in the lyrics, I got my musicians to come up with the music arrangement, we went to studio to record her voice, and voila some minor post-production editing and we're good to go. The song was intended to be embedded in a photo montage presentation Shanyi had done for Zijie, as a surprise.
We can't let you hear the whole song, but here's a snippet of the song - the intro (arranged by James and Shawn) :)
Before the 1st march-in, I witnessed the best wedding ideo I had ever seen - an artistic documentary which brought out the love story and emotions with the couple's acting, capturing only their hands/bodies and walking etc, never once showing their faces. Shanyi's voice was amazing in delivering their love story too. Wish I could share with you!
Then the live band, Chiou Yun on piano and Jixiang on guitar, came in and supported his singing while Zijie and Shanyi marched in to the stage for their cake-cutting.

We had such a splendid time performing (though Chiou Yun got a slight migraine that evening). Here's us taking a breather outside the ballroom while waiting for the 2nd march-in:

Repertoire:
就是爱你 (Just Loving You), 遇见 (Encounter), 流星下的愿 (The Wish Upon a Falling Star), 恋爱频率 (Frequency of Love), 爱是永恒 (Love is Eternal),黑白配 (Ebony and Ivory), 在我生命中的每一天 (Everyday of My Life), 另一个天堂 (The Other Heaven), 一人一半 (Half for You and Half for Me), 夜来香 (Tuberose), 万水千山总是情 (It All Comes Down to Love), 南海姑娘 (The Hainanese Girl)
Love Will Keep Us Alive - 2nd march-in, In the Still of the Night, Someone to Watch Over Me, Something Stupid, When You Say Nothing At All, The Way You Look Tonight, Quando Quando Quando, For Once in My Life, Fly Me to the Moon, Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?, L-O-V-E , I’m Yours
I was so impressed when Melissa handed me this invitation card, along with the 'movie ticket' to the "The movie":

Indeed, it was like a movie premiere with life-size standees of the "lead characters" outside the "theatre hall":

Another highlight was the 2nd march-in; to be in line with the 'movie' theme, the couple used the James Bond soundtrack. Their 'brothers and sisters' marched in first, split into 2 files, held out their colourful plastic guns and came up with various 'James Bond" and "Bond Girl"poses. Definitely a sight hard to forget!
The band had a lot of fun performing some of the couple parents' favourite songs. Jerome sang Paul's dad's favourite song "人生如梦 (Life's Like a Dream)" while I sang "Yesterday Once More", a favourite of Paul's mum. Melissa's dad loves the song 榕树下 (Under the Banyan Tree); I knew Jerome was trying his hardest not to laugh when he started the song. Despite himself, he delivered the song to much applause at the end of the song!
Thank you Paul and Melissa for inviting us to be a part of this 'movie', we're so honoured to be casted! Congratulations again!

This has to be one of the coolest wedding I've been to.
Niki and Zhi Heng got to know each other from school, but Cupid didn't have its armour strong enough back then to light the fire between the two. Upon graduation, they went separate ways - Niki flew and Zhi Heng sailed. It was only some years later when they caught up with each other again, that sparks flew. One thing they had in common is, they love to skate.
And what better way to demonstrate this common interest which binds them together, than to SKATE-IN!! Instead of the traditional wedding march-in, the couple had a 'skate-in', as in literally, they entered the ballroom on their rollerblades. I picked up skating only recently, and I was really wowed by how they managed to skate on the carpet! Niki told me later it was really tough especially toward the end, but honestly I wouldn't have guess from the captivating smiles on their faces!
Niki and Zhi Heng skated round the ballroom, then a real 3-tier wedding cake was pushed into the ballroom. This cake was special because it was made by a good friend, but also because the friend managed to design a device to rotate the couple figurine on top of the cake!

After cutting the cake, Zhi Heng took a flag in one hand, and with his other hand holding Niki's hand, both of them skated round the ballroom again to thunderous cheers and applause. What a lovely sight. And what other better "cruising" song to skate-in than this song "I Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)". Some of you may remember this song as the song from the "Gatsby" advertisement:
We also sang a song "That's What Friends Are For" to dedicate to the couples' friends on their behalf. But the songs most well-received are the mandarin songs like "每天爱你多一些" (Loving You More Each Day), "追" (Chase), "小夫妻" (Little Couple) etc.
Definitely a smashing wedding! Congratulations once again from A Little Dream!!
Band: Junxiong, Bevlyn, Ein Ein, Boon Chye

I Can’t Give You Anything But My Love, That’s What Friends Are For, If We Hold On Together, 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), 永遠にともに (Together Forever), 在我生命中的每一天 (Everyday of My Life), 爱是永恒 (Love is Eternal), 小夫妻 (Little Couple), Sway
It was a pleasant and elegant wedding banquet. We were entertained by Eric and Angeline’s pre-wedding photoshoot in MTV style done in Hong Kong - one featured the couple in the daytime, and the other featured them in the night-time. I personally liked the yacht and the sea shots. Ah… I want that for my photoshoot too… =)
We totally did not have any expectations when we were told to invite Hui Yi, an ex-student of Angeline when she taught in Nanyang School, up the stage to give a "speech". The image of a 7-8 year-old girl on the stage giving her well-wishes to the newly-wed in Mandarin was indeed too adorable for words!
Special mention of the evening goes to Lionel, the couple’s best friend, who sang 2 songs, each a representation of the bride’s and the groom’s heart to each other. For Angeline to Eric was the song "Valentine", and for Eric to Angeline, Lionel sang "Now and Forever". he even prepared a slideshow presentation of the lyrics to share with the guests the meaning of the songs!
Well, then, it’s my turn now. For both of you, 每天爱你多一些 (Loving You More Each Day):
We were also happy to meet Jonathan from the wedding planner, Wedding Acts.
Congratulations once again, Eric and Angeline!

I really like the 'nature' inspired theme for Charlotte and Wee Hian's wedding. Beautiful flower decorations on each table, striking trimmed tree pedestals along the pathway, a wedding cake decorated with vines and leaves etc. In fact, when the band arrived at 6pm for the sound check-up, the entire ballroom was abuzz with activity as hotel staff and other helpers were busy getting the ballroom ready for the wedding. The Ritz Carlton ballroom was indeed transformed with the decorations.

L-R: Hui Bing, Charlotte, Wee Hian, Jerome, Ian
The three of us had a great time singing the songs that Charlotte and Weehian have selected. They like Khalid Fong, and we perform a few classics which have been remade by this up and coming soul singer-songwriter such as 'Moon River', 'You Are The Sunshine Of My Life.' We were delighted when the couple asked us to extend our performance by an additional half hour.
Charlotte and Weehian, thanks so much for having us on your big day. Wishing you two eternal happiness in your lives ahead!

Band: Hui Bing, Jerome & Ian

Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You (1st March-in), I'm Yours, Lucky, I Will Follow You Into The Dark, Moon River, Eternal Flame, L-O-V-E, Lover's Concerto, You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, Happy Together, Somewhere Out There, What A Wonderful World

Hi Huibing and your team,
Thanks for the lovely music. We love the live and cheerful mood it was setting.
We couldn't thank you properly. Please thank your two guys too!

The wedding of William and Suzanne was a breath of fresh air.
The couple's solemnisation ceremony was held outdoors, against breathtaking views of clear skies, the Singapore Flyer and the Marina Bay Waterfront.
A full-length glass window on one side of the room set the perfect backdrop for afternoon, allowing plenty of natural light into the hall, and enabling guests and relatives to indulge in the lovely views surrounding the Megu Event Hall where the banquet was served.
The highlight of the afternoon was when the couple presented a dance to their guests and relatives, as a gesture to thank them for their presence. They waltzed to the song "When I Fall In Love". It was a very lovely sight...There they were, in the middle of the ballroom, enjoying each other's company, only having eyes for each other. It brought smiles to many around the ballroom.
William and Suzanne's dance must have melted many hearts as soon after, more couples took the floor and before we knew it, the dancefloor was crowded with couples as they waltzed to classic tunes such as "Fly Me To The Moon" and "Have I Told You Lately." Love was in the air!
Thank you, William and Suzanne for engaging "A Little Dream" on your special day. Many thanks for the lovely memories and last but not least, congratulations and best wishes!

Being the new blood of A Little Dream, I am feeling a little excited right now as I contribute my maiden entry to our blog.
It was a pleasure to host and sing for the lovely couple Dennis and Fiona. I had fun working with ZQ and Ian for the first time and we had an appreciative audience who smiled as they listened to our singing and applauded for us generously after most of our repertoire.

My favourite moment (as always actually, I look forward to this in every wedding=p) for the evening was the "Yum Seng" party. Initially, the family, relatives, brothers and sisters were pretty shy to go up on stage and took some time to form the team. But once they got started, you couldn't stop them!
After the first "Yum Seng" which I considered a warm-up, the subsequent ones only got louder and bolder. As I brought my mic to one of the brothers during the second "Yum Seng", I was surprised that he spontaneously passed it around and my mic was lost in the midst of the enthusiastic crowd.
Just when ZQ and I were about to continue with our programme after the traditional three "Yum Seng" toasts, the crowd on stage began their fourth and fifth! Friends and relatives off-stage joined in as well and it was a heart-warming sight. I almost felt that I shouldn't dampen their spirits and should just let the night continue this way.

Thank you Dennis and Fiona for trusting and engaging us to sing and host for your wedding. I hope the evening was memorable to you as much as it was to us. Here's wishing you two a blissful and wonderful marriage!

The couple knew each other since their poly days but love only blossomed several years after. Like most couples, bickering is part and parcel of growing together; but when stress came into the picture as well, they found themselves trying to keep afloat. According to Rain, Daniel was the man who never gave up on her and taught her how loving someone really is. It was through Daniel’s persistence, patience and encouragement that eventually touched her, especially during times when she needed support the most.
21st September 2009 was not only Daniel and Rain’s wedding day; it also marked their one year anniversary since their ROM!

Despite it being a rather sizeable gathering of friends and relatives, the setting was intimate. There was a buzz in the air and a warmth in everyone’s hearts that spread especially to the freezing musicians (Mandarin Oriental's air-con was very powerful indeed), who delivered two sets of enlivening music to an audience who responded positively, most notably to Bevlyn’s original tunes*! (Go local music!) Also very heart-warming was the special dedication of two ballads to the couple’s parents, 家后 and 真的爱你.

A big Thank You to you n your team!
You guys did a great job, the wonderful performance lighten up the wedding. We received quite a number of compliments and enquiries from friends, hope that they will engage you guys and allow me to be there to enjoy the whole performance when I attend their weddings.
It's a pity not able to sit down n enjoy the full performance but I am so happy to hear you singing "Lonely Afternoon" live, it was really very nice.
Thanks for being part of our wedding, giving us the perfect wedding we always wished for...
Rain Zhuo and Daniel Chong
Ching Lin had caught our band several times when she attended her friends' weddings - Lin Sia, Su Lee, and Lilian. I'm suspecting that this might be our longest word-of-mouth chain with Ching Lin's as the 4th wedding we're singing among this group of lovely ladies!
Wai Leong was a tad nervous that evening, but Ching Lin was notably enjoying herself - it was a sight to behold, watching her sway her shoulders when she walked by infront of the band while going table to table to take photos. We had a lovely time performing for the responsive guests as well, nothing more we could have asked for!
The second surprise of the evening was when Ching Lin's sister gave a very touching speech on their relationship. Accompanied by a photo montage of the sisters from childhood to adulthood, all the guests shared the love they have for each other....
The best surprise of the evening however, would have to be the 61st birthday celebration for Wai Leong's father:
I LOVE this idea of having a birthday cake in the mould of a huge peach! I'm quite sure Ching Lin and Wai Leong's wedding was his best birthday present ever!
Thank you Ching Lin & Wai Leong for inviting us to perform at your wedding. Stay happy and cheerful, and here's wishing you happiness always!
Band: Bevlyn, Zheng Quan & Linus
Repertoire:
Till The End (1st March-in), Fallen, Have I Told You Lately, From This Moment, I'm Yours, So Much In Love, Something Stupid, Let There Be Love, Quando Quando Quando, Can't Take My Eyes Off You

Song To Recommend:
分享 (Share) by Sky Wu - I was elated to see this song in the songlist, and Ching Ling made a good choice of dedicating this song to their friends. The lyrics say it all.
