At The Beginning...
To start you off, here are our answers to your burning questions.
And do read our quick round up of 2008.
After many days of torrential rains and once-in-50-years floods, Peak Yuen and Jonathan woke up to sunny skies on the day of their wedding. They must have prayed quite hard, because the weather held up wonderfully, throughout the solemnisation ceremony held just outside the East India Room.
After the ceremony, guests adjorned to the East India Room, and began their lunch buffet. Together with Justin and Boon Chye, I started first with a set of jazz standards. There were nods of appreciation, but I wanted to engage the audience a bit more.
During our break, I quickly announced that the second march-in was 甜蜜蜜 (Honey Sweet), and invited the guests to sing along with me. They readily obliged, so Peak Yuen and Jonathan were treated to a rousing welcome as they walked into the ballroom.
Feeling cheeky, I invited Jonathan to serenade Peak Yuen with 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart). I was second-time lucky when Jonathan agreed without a moment's hesitation. The crowd responded with loud and appreciative applause.
Thank you, Peak Yuen and Jonathan, for being so sporting. Congratulations again on getting married, and may you both enjoy a blissful marriage.

Song To Recommend:
I Know - a beautiful instrumental piece, perfect for a short walk-in.
Embraceable You - Love this romantic tune. The song fits Peak Yuen and Jonathan to a T, judging by how their arms were always intertwined.
Rachel decided on Beyond The Sea for her March-In song, and no wonder -- her groom Jason was an avid sailor, traversing the oceans until unexpectedly, he found somewhere to drop anchor at last...where his beautiful bride Rachel was.
It's a very beautiful story of romance between two continents that brought tears to the eyes of the band as well as the guests, perhaps best summed up in the loosely recalled words of Jason's father, also a sailor:
'My son Jason fell in love with the sea from when when he was just a kid. We'd go sailing together. He grew up and traveled to many different countries.'
'Then one day he found happiness, and her name was Rachel.'
Or to quote the very apt lyrics of Beyond the Sea,
we'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
and never again I'll go sailin'"
In contrast to the newly and happily rooted groom, Jason's family journeyed down from their homeland of Australia to wave their handkerchiefs at the couple as they departed on the good ship Matrimony, and threw themselves into the Chinese wedding with gusto, joining in happily in the impromptu yam seng, and bouncing up to dance, grandmothers and grandchildren alike, to the tune of Let There Be Love.
The Chinese singaporean guests were warm participants as well: Table 3 sent up a request for the bride and groom to have their first dance, which they tried their best to indulge, and Rachel's brother gamely and very bravely tried to translate Jason's sweet speech from English to Mandarin for the non English-speaking guests, and while some of the bilingual guests laughed very hard at some of his translations, this supposedly bilingual emcee thought his efforts were eloquent and more than adequate.
It was a charming and simple, moving wedding with lovely participants...two of whom, including the groom who must have been tired, came up personally to the band btoh during and after our performance to congratulate us and tell us how well we did, which is really heartfood for us. And after the whole banquet was over, some of the pretty young relatives came up requesting dance music, which the Raffles Hotel soundguy/DJ gamely found and put on, causing a whole table to bounce up to a trance/techno track.
It was a beautiful night, and we wish the Seaman and his Sweetheart a lovely landfall.

Hi Hsin Yeow,
Sorry about the late reply. Jason and I flew to China after the wedding and we just got back.
It's so sweet of Jo and please thank her and the band for the incredible music at the wedding. Jason's grandma was singing along at our table and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.
I'll try to get photos from everyone and will send one at the soonest. Thank you and say hi to everyone for us!
Cheers,
Rachel & Jason
This has to be one of the coolest wedding I've been to.
Niki and Zhi Heng got to know each other from school, but Cupid didn't have its armour strong enough back then to light the fire between the two. Upon graduation, they went separate ways - Niki flew and Zhi Heng sailed. It was only some years later when they caught up with each other again, that sparks flew. One thing they had in common is, they love to skate.
And what better way to demonstrate this common interest which binds them together, than to SKATE-IN!! Instead of the traditional wedding march-in, the couple had a 'skate-in', as in literally, they entered the ballroom on their rollerblades. I picked up skating only recently, and I was really wowed by how they managed to skate on the carpet! Niki told me later it was really tough especially toward the end, but honestly I wouldn't have guess from the captivating smiles on their faces!
Niki and Zhi Heng skated round the ballroom, then a real 3-tier wedding cake was pushed into the ballroom. This cake was special because it was made by a good friend, but also because the friend managed to design a device to rotate the couple figurine on top of the cake!

After cutting the cake, Zhi Heng took a flag in one hand, and with his other hand holding Niki's hand, both of them skated round the ballroom again to thunderous cheers and applause. What a lovely sight. And what other better "cruising" song to skate-in than this song "I Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)". Some of you may remember this song as the song from the "Gatsby" advertisement:
We also sang a song "That's What Friends Are For" to dedicate to the couples' friends on their behalf. But the songs most well-received are the mandarin songs like "每天爱你多一些" (Loving You More Each Day), "追" (Chase), "小夫妻" (Little Couple) etc.
Definitely a smashing wedding! Congratulations once again from A Little Dream!!

I Can’t Give You Anything But My Love, That’s What Friends Are For, If We Hold On Together, 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), 永遠にともに (Together Forever), 在我生命中的每一天 (Everyday of My Life), 爱是永恒 (Love is Eternal), 小夫妻 (Little Couple), Sway
As musicians, we often ask a lot of ourselves, and strive to give each performance the same amount of energy and passion as if it's our last.
But sometimes the band only sounds as good as the sound system will allow. That's why I was thrilled when I knew that Sam will be bringing in a separate sound system for the band. As owner of one of the "big boys" in the music industry (I hear he supplies sound systems for large scale concerts), he certainly knows the importance of quality sound systems.
So all I had to do was assemble a team of top notch musicians for the night. I found them in Sebastian (guitar), Niq (percussionist), Melvin (bassist), Boon Chye (saxophonist).
The band performed 2 sets of jazz standards and classics, including Unforgettable, Just The Way You Are, (I Love You) For A Sentimental Reason, So Nice, Girl From Ipanema and Blue Bossa. They also added a couple of audience favourites into the mix, including Have I Told You Lately and Wonderful Tonight. The couple were full of praises for the band, but the credit should also go to them, for ensuring we sounded our best.
Congratulations Sam and Merisa! Thanks again for engaging us.

Hi Hsin Yeow,
Please help us to thank your band on our behalf! We had no chance to thank them yesterday. It was a great performance; we enjoyed the music very much!
Sam
When I stepped into the Straits Room of the Fullerton Hotel, the stunning decor just took my breath away. The ballroom was pure white, with a high ceiling reminiscent of a cathedral. Each table had pink candles, in line with the colour theme of a pink and fushcia blend. The ballroom looked really pretty in those colours. It made me feel all pure, innocent, and put me right in the mood for romance...lovely!
There was also a little pink card at every table for guests to write their wishes/blessings to the couple. The cards were then collected by the couple for them to keep as mementoes. I even wrote on a pink card myself! :)
The performance went really smoothly, and we were actually just ahead of schedule - something that doesn't happen very often in Chinese wedding receptions. I had a great time performing with Boon Chye and Matthew, and the songs were really lovely. Jason and Yen Ping selected mostly familiar favourites, coupled with some new songs which are less often heard at weddings. Take a listen by clicking the videos below, and see if you would like to select them for your wedding.
We were thankful for the appreciative applause from the couple and their guests. I remember noticing the look of joy on both Jason and Yen Ping's faces as we sang.
Here's wishing them an exciting and loving journey ahead; after all, they've "only just begun".

Jaslyn and Andy approached A Little Dream more than 1 and a half year ago. Indeed, their early attention to our live band was flattering because it reflected that having live music was one of their priorities.

Andy and Jaslyn also took the efforts to dedicate a song "That's what friends are for" to their wedding entourage and to all the people who helped made the wedding possible....

Thank you once again for helping to make our wedding night memorable!
Having attended and performed at countless weddings, I know the routine like the back of my hand, even though I have never personally experienced it. Hence, it amazes me how many couples are able to come up with ways to make their celebrations special and unique.
Before making their grand entrance, Jim and Theresa decided to set a lighthearted tone for the evening; they screened a hilarious animation that told their love story. The cartoon came complete with thought bubbles revealing what each was really thinking at key moments such as their first meeting, first Valentine's Day and the proposal. And since it was Theresa's father who introduced the two to each other in the lobby of their student residence at the Queensland University of Technology, one got the sense that this was a love that was meant to be from the very beginning.
So it was only fitting that Jim and Theresa should scratch their 7-Year-Itch by finally tying the knot, before flying off to honeymoon in Australia, where their love was born.
Despite the fact that Jim had been feeling under the weather before the wedding, he pulled through admirably, bravely facing the morning challenges that set him and his xiong di (groomsmen) by Theresa's jie mei (bridesmaids), After proving his sincerity through song and dance and the handing over of an impressive wad of cash, Jim was rewarded with a kiss from his beautiful bride, Theresa. And though this was their first day as husband and wife, their intimacy and mutual understanding was impossible to miss from the moment they walked into ballroom. Effortlessly and efficiently, they worked together as a team to perform the traditional tasks of cutting the wedding cake and pouring the champagne, helping one another at every step of the way without even having to think about it. Jim would step back to arrange Theresa's skirts onstage, while Theresa brushed lint from Jim's jacket and handed him the knife to cut the cake.
The band, comprising myself, Matthiew and Boon Chye, felt very well-taken care of. Lunch was ordered for us from the hotel's cafe menu, and, as emcee, I was even given a pink rosebud buttonhole pin to match the rest of the wedding party. The crowd was reserved but very appreciative throughout our two sets. A few sang along, including one lady who seemed to know every number we did! The seniors, as expected, came to life when we sang classics like 一人一半 (One Half) and 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart). We were glad to hear Jim and Theresa say that their friends and family really enjoyed our performance.
Thank you, Jim and Theresa, for allowing us to be part of your special day. May you enjoy a lifetime of happiness and fulfillment together.

It was a night filled with guests from different national boundaries. Pier is a Malaysian, while Fish is originally from China. They met each other in Singapore while studying, and... voilà - love was in the air.
It was definitely a night full of surprises. The "Jiemei"s conspired with the live band to put up a special song item for Fish (魔力 by S.H.E), which made her cry tears of joy. And before she had time to cool down, like all heroes in movies making their grand entrances, Pier continued to serenade her with the song 爱很简单 . Was that all? No no no... He did that on bended knee, on stage! How romantic... Bevlyn had earlier thrown the idea to Pier thinking 'Just in case he's game enough'. And Pier really took the idea up without batting an eye!
Although the wedding party had to end, we from A Little Dream wish Fish and Pier an everlasting and blissful marriage! Congratulations!

Every little girl dreams of being rescued out of a tight spot by a knight in shining armour. They marry, and live happily ever after.
Sereene (spelled with a double e) found herself in a tight spot when she lost her car key. She couldn't get into her vehicle, so she whipped out her phone and punched a number for help. As fate would have it, she picked her knight --- Dennis!
Sereene and Dennis chose to celebrate their union in the stately ballroom of Regent Hotel, which was decorated by numerous tealight candles. The couple left the hosting and entertainment to Eleanor and the band, made up of Ian and Boon Chye.
When I spoke to Sereene after the wedding, she praised Eleanor for doing a wonderful job. She also thanked the musicians for their hard work. She was so thrilled by Boon Chye's playing she asked him to perform a 5-min solo. The affable Boon Chye agreed, and his solo performance was warmly received.

Congratulations Sereene and Dennis! Thank you so much for putting your trust in us. May you both enjoy a lifetime of happiness!

This is officially the wedding with the most applause....even before the band started performing. When the emcees took the stage, there was applause. When the couple's names were mentioned, there was applause. The applause really counted as enthusiastic, and thoroughly reflected the happy mood of the guests. I wonder where the magic in all that came from!?
The magic could lie in the fact that Emily and Lance are such affable people! Emily counts as one of the most prepared and ready bride I have seen - she was already all dolled and dressed-up at 630pm when the band was doing the setup. She wasted no time to interact and receive the stream of guests slowly trickling in!
The first dish song was performed by the band, and it was "I Wish You Love" in French, as specially indicated by Emily. I had the most wonderful time performing with Ji Xiang on guitar and Boon Chye on saxophone, especially on the song "That's All". Truth be told, it has been a long time since I sang a song and gave myself goosebumps. The song is that well-written, that's why:
I can only give you love that lasts forever.
And a promise to be near each time you call.
And the only heart I own
For you and you alone
That's all,
That's all...
I can only give you country walks in springtime
And a hand to hold when leaves begin to fall;
And a love whose burning light
Will warm the winter's night
That's all,
That's all.
There are those I am sure who have told you,
They would give you the world for a toy.
All I have are these arms to enfold you,
And a love time can never destroy.
If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear,
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small.
Say it's me that you'll adore,
For now and evermore
That's all,
That's all.
Lance's speech started with "Finally, after being so many years of brother, it's MY turn to be the groom". Lance, I'm sure the wait is worth it with such a pretty and intelligent bride! My heartiest congratulations and all the best!

p/s : Congratulation on your new EP. I wil go get one.
We were pleased as punch to be invited to perform at Doris' birthday party (let's keep her age a secret, shall we?), held at Seascape Gallery at Sentosa Cove.
For one, it was an opportunity to shake the dust off the lyric sheets of our Mandarin and Hokkien classics because the guests simply loved them. They were rather vociferous in their support, and even came up to the microphone more than once to sing along with us! We were glad for the spontaneous performances, since it made the atmosphere all the more jovial!

Spontaneous performances from the guests were the order of the day!
Special thanks to Victor (victorid@starhub.net.sg) for sending us his photographs!
One of the memorable highlights of the evening was when Doris' children came up and delivered a 15-min speech about their mother. Filled with amusing anecdotes (e.g. My mother is a perfectionist, because she once woke me up at 7am and asked for my car keys as she wanted to straighten my car!), the speech tickled the audience no end.
Happy birthday, Doris!

A cosy dinner hosted behind closed doors and under the watchful eye of our DPM Wong Kan Seng’s personal bodyguards was indeed an eye-opener. Yes, we couldn’t peel our eyes off the delicious-looking dishes that were being individually served to the guests! Each plate was a tiny but ornate art piece, worthy of every succulent bite. And in between my own bites of lian rong pao (lotus seed buns) that sweet Matthew had thoughtfully bought from the nearby foodcourt, we could only wistfully savour the whiffs of fine Chinese cuisine as the service staff carried them past the musicians’ tiny rest corner, located just next to the pantry door.
This dinner was no ordinary dinner for the affluent, for these guests are the ones responsible for the generous funding of the Singapore Cord Blood Bank’s R&D, medical advancement that could potentially save many lives. When Hsin Yeow first invited me to perform at this dinner, I was a little excited because being a parent myself, I could relate to the importance of cord-blood banking and its incredible medical potential. My gentle serenade to the guests was my own expression of thanks to them for their charity and life-saving foresight.
We paced the evening with both fast and slow English, Chinese, Cantonese and Hokkien tunes, many of which our guests shyly mouthed along to as they had their dinner. I personally really enjoyed it when Hsin Yeow sang “Sway”. As the song built up, he was moving his legs to the rhythm of the Cha-Cha, so engrossed in his little dance that I couldn’t help but join in. From the corner of my eye, I was pretty certain that Matthew and Boon Chye were shaking their butts and would have joined in too if they didn’t have to play their instruments.
It is truly an honour to be able to perform at a “Thank-You” dinner for our Nation’s very distinguished. This is indeed a memorable first gig with A Little Dream that I thoroughly enjoyed. As I look forward to more opportunities in future, I shall also shamelessly hint to Hsin Yeow that we hope to have more than lian rong pao for dinner next time ;p

"Jason is my best friend, buddy and lover! I feel so fortunate to spend the rest of my life with him. Cherishing him more every day will be my top priority!
Jason and Cindy enjoyed reading this blog, but one thing worried them:
"Hi Hsin Yeow, Jason sings like a duck! So hope you guys can let him off yah! Both of us have seen your journal entries and most of the time, the groom got sabo* and sang on stage! So he got pretty worried! Haha.. he really really can't sing, I swear..."
When I met the couple on their wedding day, I assured Jason I wouldn't make him uncomfortable onstage.
Besides, I knew Cindy and Jason had planned something special for their guests already. For their second entrance into the ballroom, they chose to add some dance choreography to the song, a mambo-flavoured 说不出的快活 (Unspoken Happiness). The crowd loved it. Jason played a dashing lothario, while Cindy played hard-to-get. It was a riot from start to finish, and the crowd were cheering "Encore!" repeatedly when the performance ended. Bravo, Cindy and Jason!

Thanks, Edmund, for capturing all the beautiful moments of the wedding!

"Recently, Jason secretly sent a cake to my office to celebrate my birthday! I was actually in a foul mood that morning, but what he did cheered me up. I was grinning with joy!
Bevlyn, Ein Ein, Boon Chye and I had a rocking time! The crowd really enjoyed the music, and the dedications were very well received. The first dedication was Michael W Smith's Friends, and I chose to sing this as the first song of the evening. Jason and Cindy were introduced to each other by Sharon, a mutual friend, so I thought it would be the perfect song to pay tribute to her, as well as the couple's friends.
The other special dedication was 雨衣 (Raincoat), a touching Hokkien song about a parent's love. Upon the couple's request, I performed the song just after Cindy and Jason thanked their parents for their unstinting love and support.
Congratulations, Jason and Cindy! Thanks for engaging us to be a part of your wedding day. May you both enjoy a lifetime of joy and love!

Song To Recommend:
小酒窝 (Dimples) - I'm sure I'll be singing this duet quite often. It's got a catchy chorus, and a really sweet melody.
I don't think I will ever forget this gig at Seascape Gallery, which is actually a show-flat converted into a dining hall. The dinner gathering was for staff of Ho Bee, and the council members and staff from the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
When I arrived at the car park, I was blown away by the sight of the clear water and the yachts - I love yachts!
One of the staff from Ho Bee, Caroline, was so warm and even insisted that we visit the show-flat!

The mock-up of the entire estate... The balcony of each unit is shaped like the bow of a ship, so when you sit down in the living hall, you can imagine yourself on a ship looking out towards the sea:

The interiors are also very sleekly furnished. Basically the four of us were blown away. This just seemed, surreal:

The show-flat reception turned into a dining hall:

One of the staff Thomas was so worked up by the music that he decided to join the band and sing 2 songs with us. Two other staff even grabbed the opportunity to do a cha-cha dance while the band was grooving to the latin number "Sway". We were nearly amused when many of them stayed back to hear us finish the last song!

It's amazing where you can find true love:
David first crossed path with Ling Ying at a staircase in Yishun Safra's bowling alley. He was carrying four 15-pound bowling balls, two in front and two behind - he just wanted to 'finish the staircase FAST'. As fate would have it, Ling Ying was strolling up the staircase with her friends in no particular hurry, right in front of David. In quick defence, David remembered he had said 'excuse me' to Ling Ying and her friends.
What made him a very happy man on his wedding day was not just because of his wife, and a new family, but also because he could finally stop the 11pm-1am chauffeuring from south of spore to Yishun where Ling Ying lived, and back to the south of spore where he had lived, ever again. :)
Then band had a good time performing to the guests, quite many whom I think are live music lovers! I would not be surprised because David is a guitarist himself. He even took a picture of himself and his guitar, and display it at the reception area. Clarence my guitarist commented tongue-in-cheek when I told him about the picture, "What? He's married to his guitar?!"
Thank you David and Ling Ying for inviting my band to perform at your wedding. We wish you everlasting love and a wonderful marriage ahead. Congratulations!

Compliments from David:
Dear Bevlyn,
I've had many comments since (my wedding) that they were amazed with your voice's tone and timbre.
As for the room having many live music lovers, well - let's just say that the corner 4 tables right next to you were full of guys from my church's worship ministry ie bands, some of them have projects outside like sonic edge, vertical rush, giants must fall, etc - so i think they know live music very well too!

After too many name changes, it was amazing that Boon Chye and I managed to find Holiday Inn Atrium - it just wasn't in our 2003 Street Directories! (The hotel used to be known as "Glass Hotel". Ah ha!)
Anyway, I remember the night for a couple of reasons: I'm not sure if it was the couple or the hotel, but the minute I saw the wedding favours for each guest on the table, I plotted to take one home for myself, although ultimately unsuccessful.
It was your typical chinese melamine sauce plate (the kind you put soy sauce and chilli in) with a cute cartoon of a wedded couple printed in colour on the sauce plate's face! Also, they had these black plastic cutouts of a stiletto shoe and a handgun placed alternately around the table, which I heard was meant for some table games.
Unfortunately we did not stay long enough to see how it was used. Another fun incident was a song request by the bride's father. He wanted us to do Michael Learns To Rock's "25 Minutes". Now I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a BIG FAN of theirs, and I KNOW THAT SONG! But despite its wedding references - church, wedding dress, bride waiting in church etc. - the band unanimously voted that perhaps it wasn't the best song to play at a wedding.
The ever-resourceful and versatile Juliet managed to whip up "Close To You" to replace it - NICE SAVE...
On a sweeter note, it's nice to know that besides choosing all the songs on the set list for the evening which was meant for entertaining the guests, the couple specifically designed the evening to end with a song dedication of "Butterfly Kisses" for their parents. That, together with a flower presentation, on top of a thank-you speech already done, must have made their parents real proud!
I'll never ever forget that this wedding banquet had the LOUDEST 'yam seng' EVER. The brothers on stage managed to channel their 'internal chi' into the microphone - you know how hotel AV technicians turn down microphones during the toasting to 'protect' their sound systems? in this case, they didn't.
Somehow, Boon Chye and I were outside the ballroom on our way to our bathroom break awaiting the 2nd march-in, and we were HIT by the wall of sound coming from INSIDE, despite the protection of the ballroom doors! ha. after that, we weren't afraid of anyone complaining that the band was too loud. Still, we appreciate Boon Chye's efforts in using all his skill and breath control to keep his volume down, magic up!
Band: Juliet, Boon Chye, Matthew
Repertoire:
Now That I've Found You, A Love That Will Last, You're Where I Belong, Valentine, What A Wonderful World, Show Me Heaven, L-O-V-E, Fall for You, Just The Way You Are, I'm Yours, Love Me
You Are The Love of My Life, Loving You, From This Moment, Besame Mucho, Love Me Tender, Wonderful Tonight, Eternal Flame, Butterfly Kisses, Sway
Compliments from Susie & Ivan:
We would like to thank you, Juliet, Mathew and Boon Chye for making our wedding night on the 6th Dec 2008 so wonderful!
Many of our guests commended that Juliet's voice was absolutely beautiful! Although, I didn't have a chance to thank them personally (it was a really stressful night for me!) but if you could convey my heartfelt thanks to all 3 of them that would be so wonderful!
Of course there were funny incidents whereby my Dad wanted to dedicate "25 Minutes" as it was his favourite song without realising the message of the song, Juliet subtly switched it to another song. ;p
Once again, thank you very much and I would definitely send you guys pics of the band performing on that night once I have it!
Best regards,
Susie & Ivan
Halfway through Felicia's speech, she said something that felt so true, "Herry and I are very humbled to know so many people love us; I really mean it!"
Herry and Felicia's love story started 9 years ago, in The Netherlands, where both of them were studying. After knowing each other for a year, the relationship blossomed, and they got together. But it wasn't easy keeping them both in the same continent, much less the same country. After finishing his studies in The Netherlands, Herry pursued further studies in Spain, China and finally ended up in Singapore to meet Felicia again and look for a job.
It was no wonder that two of their close friends who gave speeches spoke warmly of the couple's steadfast commitment the relationship.
A third guest who went onstage to deliver a speech was none other than Felcia's boss. After praising Felicia as a valuable employee and friend, he said to Herry, "I don't know you, but because I know Felicia, I think you're an incredibly lucky man!"
Daniel, Boon Chye and I had a great time that afternoon, singing songs that ran the gamut of pop and jazz. A memorable number was I'll Be Your Everything, a song Felicia loved. I dedicated the number to Herry, who glowed with happiness and joy.
Congratulations Herry and Felicia!

A "short and sweet" introduction about Lay Hian and Yeou Yee (YY):
We met 7 years ago at university and he has been my ultimate best friend, soulmate and everything else ever since. We were just like any other couple (meet, eat, chill daily) until two years ago, we made the major decision for YY to join his brother & uncle in Guangzhou for a business venture.
Since then, we only met up about once every two months. YY don't agree but I say - absence makes the heart grow fonder. The longer we lived so far apart, the more we felt incomplete without each other. That was when we felt ready to tie the knot......
YY is the type who will readily spend his last dollar on some frivolous shoe or bag I like and then scrimp on his meals or refrain from buying the latest comic; he will readily spend on cab fare to send me home from town then take a long 1.5 hr bus ride back home; he waits for hours (sometimes 3hrs) without complaint when I am caught up at work, and he can go to extremes to make my parents happy knowing that my happiness is his happiness.
It was my first performance at Grand Shanghai and I found the place totally charming. The sound system was great, and there was a piano onstage for Ein Ein to work her magic. Shirley, the banquet manager, was efficient and experienced, so we were well taken care of at all times. This is definitely a choice venue if the theme of your wedding is vintage charm.
I was bowled over by Lay Hian's compliment at the end of our performance, "Thank you, Hsin Yeow, the wedding ambience was just what I wanted."
Congratulations, Lay Hian and YY!

Sher Li was among the guests at Cordelia & Eric's wedding, and after the 'preview', she decided to get a live band for her wedding too. And we sure were glad she made the decision, because the band had such a great time performing at the wedding - with Tony on the baby grand piano provided FOC by Conrad, Boon Chye on his saxophone, and myself on vocals, we delivered mostly jazz and english classics to the guests, who gave us appreciative applause after nearly every song!
Charles, whom I have to say is a Fei-Xiang look-alike, gave a very sincere yet amusing speech, thanking especially his in-laws for giving him such a loving wife. Sher Li admitted during her speech that Charles thinks she is stingy with compliments for him, but she is really thankful that Charles 'never fails to be there' whenever she needs him at her side, and she feels really blessed that she has Charles for her husband.
I found out later that 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart) is actually Charles' favourite song, so I dedicated it to him on Sher Li's behalf right after the speech.
We were also thrilled to bump into Kelvin Koh from Lighted Pixels. You have to check out his gorgeous and award-winning pictures!
A song to recommend - Built To Last by Melee. Although it's quite a popular song on radio, we don't quite get as many requests for this song for weddings. So you may want to consider :)

"To the world, you are one person. To one person, you are the world."
The above aphorism aptly describes the relationship between Lorraine and Carl. Both of them could hardly contain the glow of being newly-weds. Carl, when giving his speech, thanked Lorraine for giving him happiness, and for making him the "luckiest guy in the world."
Lorraine, on the other hand, decided to put her emotions into a song, and surprised Carl by singing Can't Take My Eyes Off You. We helped to orchestrate it, of course, by arranging a short practice session with Lorraine while Carl was entertaining the wedding guests outside the ballroom. That brief rehearsal was sufficient, and Lorraine brought the house down as she swayed her hips and sang with all her emotion. Carl could not stop smiling.
I loved how Lorraine and Carl chose a set of dance songs just to get the crowd moving. The couple clearly believed that dance was an important element of their wedding. After all, they started the ball rolling by dancing to Norah Jones' Come Away With Me when they first entered the ballroom. Everyone was transfixed by their graceful and fluid movements, which were the obvious result of months of sustained practice. Kudos to Lorraine and Carl for making the effort!
Another highlight of the evening was the emcee, a close friend of Carl's called Michael. He was a natural, and showed no signs of nerves at all. He was funny to boot, and exclaimed quite loudly while listing several of Carl's positive traits, "Carl, I can't read your writing la!"
Congratulations, Lorraine and Carl! Thank you for having faith in us, and giving us the opportunity to be a part of your beautiful wedding. May you continue to fall in love with each other every day!
