Hsin Yeow's thoughts: 一支小雨伞 (A Small Umbrella)

Congrats to James and Kelly!

The couple picked a challenging repertoire, comprising classic hits in English, Mandarin and Hokkien. Eleanor, Zheng Quan and Feri were game for it, despite having to learn several songs for the first time.

Eleanor got the crowd going for 一支小雨伞 (A Small Umbrella) and 一人一半 (One Half), songs that were world apart from the Broadway and jazz tunes she normally sings.

Zheng Quan impressed with his versatility and diction for both English and Mandarin numbers. Feri, as usual, wowed the crowd with his impressive guitar skills.

Thank you so much for engaging the band!

Band: Eleanor, Zheng Quan, Feri

Hui Bing's thoughts: Butterfly Kisses

Michelle and Keith's wedding had several interesting touches which made it special in a few ways. For their first march-in, they had their bridesmaids and groomsmen walk down the aisle first, finally followed by the couple. I thought it was a good way to build up suspense and anticipation. Instead of marching in wearing her white bridal gown, Michelle decided to wear an elegant pale yellow gown for her 1st march-in instead. So her gorgeous white bridal number can be 'reserved' for the second march-in and other parts of the wedding programme.

Another unique aspect of the dinner – the couple had a tea ceremony in the middle of programme, with the emcee announcing the sequence of the relatives who were to receive the couple's offer of tea. It was quite a lively segment, as the rest of the other guests and children also got to witness this traditional ceremony.

For the champagne pouring ceremony, Michelle and Keith each had a bottle to contribute to the fountain. How innovative is that?

I had a great time performing with Ein Ein and Boon Chye that evening. Some of the guests even requested that the overall volume be higher so that they can hear us better. We were glad to receive compliments from the guests, including the couple's parents, on the performance by '一个小小的梦’(A Little Dream), the affectionate Chinese moniker that the emcee had given us.

Dear Michelle and Keith, thanks for having us at your wedding and wishing a lifetime of happiness and bliss!

Song to Recommend:

Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle

I have heard the song before but this is the first time when I got to read the lyrics in detail. I was so glad to perform this for Michelle and Keith who wanted to dedicate this song to their daddies. It is such a beautiful song, about a father's thoughts as he sees his little girl grow up to be someone's bride.

Compliments from Keith and Michelle:

Hihi pple,

Thanks to huibing and guys for the songs...

Anyway regarding the champagne, yup we the brides shd have the fun too... but another reason for the extra bottle of champagne is that there'll be more champagne to fill the champagne pyramid instead of only having a sip each... haha....

Keith & Michelle HERE!!!

Wedding Tip:

To all brides, grab a champagne bottle too! Don't let the grooms have all the fun!

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Lover's Concerto

When I met Alvin after our performance had ended, I said to him, "Alvin, you're a lucky man!"

Here's why. Dawn, his beautiful bride, orchestrated a grand surprise just for his husband. Not only did she engage us on the sly, she decided that she wanted to serenade him with a song instead of walking into the ballroom with him!

To ensure that her plan worked, she met up with me on one occasion to discuss the details and pass me the song list (which she made sure included songs by Jacky Cheung, a singer whom Alvin admired). A few weeks later, she made arrangements with Matthew, my talented keyboardist, to rehearse her song. All without Alvin's knowing.

The surprise was carried out without a hitch. When Dawn sang the opening bars of Lover's Concerto, the ballroom doors opened to reveal Alvin, who was standing alone, and clearly befuddled by the ensuing commotion and applause. After a few moments, he managed to gather his wits about him, and joined his bride onstage.

As Dawn reached the end of the song, she sang...

You hold me in your arms
And say once again you love me...

At which point, she pointed the microphone to Alvin, who immediately replied, "I love you!"

Without missing a beat, Dawn continued to sing...
And if your love is true
Everything will be just as wonderful!

It was the perfect beginning to the wedding celebration!

After a very successful first set, I met Alvin and Dawn outside the ballroom. With practised ease, I went up to Alvin and asked him to sing a song as well. Naturally, he couldn't refuse, not after what Dawn had already done.

Hence, the guests were treated to a duet from Dawn and Alvin. The latter had a strong singing voice, and both of them sounded great together.

Congratulations Dawn and Alvin! Dawn, thank you for planning such an elaborate surprise, and making your wedding so memorable. Alvin, you were a great sport!

Song To Recommend:

小情歌 (A Love Song) - An evocative song with beautiful lyrics.

Compliments from Dawn:

Hi Hsin Yeow,

I was feeling so nervous before the march-in that my mind suddenly went blank!

Luckily, you handed me the lyrics in the soonest time and Matthew quickly rehearsed the song with me on the spot.

I'm glad that the long planned surprise turned out successful on my big day. Our guests was amazed by the unusual march-in and the bravery of me singing on stage. Some of our friends and colleagues thought that you were Alvin's brother!

Not only can you sing, your emcee speech was well delivered and done in a professional manner. Matthew was a great keyboardist. Our duet couldn't have been successful without him.

Thank you for making our wedding a special one!
