Hui Bing's thoughts: The Nearness Of You
It was great performing for Melvin and Amelia’s wedding as they are such an easy-going and friendly couple, and they placed absolute trust in us to deliver a great performance. So much so, that Melvin gave us free rein with the songlist after he heard our performance at another wedding. James, Benson and I had a great time singing the mix of jazz, easy listening and Mandopop numbers that I have selected for them.
One positive comment about the venue – I loved its long and wide entrance. Suitable for couples with a big number of guests as it allows guests to have a nearer view of the march-ins. Its fabulous lighting also gave the ballroom a dreamy, ethereal yet romantic feel.
Indeed, Melvin looked very much like a dashing prince in his white suit while I thought Amelia resembled a Korean TV star in her beautiful embroidered wedding gown. To enhance the magical moment, Melvin decided to serenade his bride by singing ‘A Whole New World’, to thunderous applause from his guests. It was a great way to end his thank-you speech.
Dear Melvin and Amelia, it has been a pleasure being part of your special day. Wishing you everlasting bliss and happiness ahead.
Band: Hui Bing, James, Benson
Repertoire:
Fly Me To The Moon, A Love That Will Last, C’est Si Bon, Fallen, Just The Way You Are, Close To You, L-O-V-E, So Nice, Lovin’ You, The Nearness Of You, Can't Help Falling In Love, Two Sleepy People, Everything In Its Time, The Way You Look Tonight, I’m Beginning to See the Light, The Look of Love, Kiss Me, Cheek To Cheek, 给我一个吻 (Give Me A Kiss), 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), 我愿意 (I'm Willing), 至少还有你 (At Least There Is You)
Compliments from Melvin:
Hi Hui Bing,

Bevlyn's thoughts: 爱很简单 (Love Is Very Simple)
Anne's good friend since their primary school days in Kuantan, Lisa, made an impression that evening with her digs at Daniel.
As a surprise gift for Anne, Lisa came up with a special photo-montage of Anne and Daniel through the years, but not without adding in text lines in between the pictures to hint how lucky a man Daniel is to be able to be with Anne. In her speech, Lisa described how she went from asking Anne about their wedding date, to asking Daniel straight in the face. Last year, in her desperation to get Daniel to act, she told Daniel he would be the only one capable of fulfilling her birthday wish - to marry Anne very soon. One might think that Lisa was a tad too desperate for her good friend's sake, but I think we probably could understand her frustration after knowing how many years the couple has been together - ELEVEN!
Lisa shared how appalled she was when she saw Daniel wearing 'shabbily' for his first date with Anne, and wondered what Anne saw in him. But Lisa admitted that as days went by, she realised that Daniel is actually a very nice gentleman who totally complements Anne. Lisa also divulged how Anne needed to rush back from Kuantan to Singapore during her annual visit to Malaysia during the Chinese New Year period, because Daniel would miss her so much and call her incessantly.
Another interesting speech was the one made by Daniel's father, who started off the speech with "孩子长大了, 很开心。 可是觉得老了" (Children have grown up, I'm very happy, but I feel old too.) He credited the Daniel's upbringing his mother, who was unfortunately no longer around to witness the happy occasion.
Daniel also gave a great speech, but what wowed me was the fact that he said '我爱你' (I love you) to his father. Totally unexpected but everyone present in the ballroom was deeply touched.
The evening was full of programmes with an emcee who played some couple games with Anne and Daniel's good friends on stage, and even hosted a FAQ session, actually more to test Daniel's memory. The proposal scene was even re-enacted in a video shown to the guests - Daniel cooked a sumptuous breakfast, carried it upstairs to Anne who was awaken by the great food. With the help of a well-dressed mini-Schnauzer which carried the ring box around its neck, Daniel proposed to Anne on his knees.
But to me, the highlight of the evening was when I sang '爱很简单' (Love Is Very Simple). I was told the couple decided not to do a slow dance. But when I was into the 1st verse of the song, I saw Daniel holding out his hand to ask Anne for a dance. It just happened so naturally and everyone cheered for the couple.

Congratulations Anne and Daniel, I'm sure you two will have many 11 years together! Keep in touch!

Hi Bev
We are now in Maldives, still holidaying.... Thanks for the performance that night! Everything went too fast that night. But we heard your smoothing voice and the great music by the band, while changing for the second outfit.
Thanks for narrating about our wedding night. I have also attached our pre-wedding photo for you to upload.
Thanks again bev & team!
Best Regards

Bevlyn's thoughts: But I Do Love You
Su-Zan first got to know Wai Loon during her Economics lectures in one of NUS's lecture theatres 8 years ago. During the speech, Su-Zan congratulated herself for not judging a book by its cover ('bespectacled and geeky' in her own words), because she got to know about Wai Loon's real cheeky nature beneath the 'cool exterior' over time.
This was probably in retort to Wai Loon's earlier comment while giving thanks to his mother, 'I only wish my wife would cook as well as you'. Wai Loon also apologised to Su-Zan for leaving her with the bulk of the wedding-planning, but he added, though he reckoned that was what Su-Zan had actually wanted). At this point, Benson my saxophonist turned to me and nodded his head "Yah, women are like that, at least for my wife". I was, simply dumbfounded haha.
As you probably realise by now, they are one fun-loving couple with an excellent sense of humour. Their friends made the occasion really joyous by laughing and yelping all across the ballroom in response to the couples' speech. The pair of male emcees also made the yum-seng session a funny and enjoyable one!
After the speech, Su-Zan dedicated a song to Wai Loon - 'But I Do Love You' taken off the Coyote Ugly soundtrack. The song was significant to their relationship and I was more than happy to sing the song - a great song that speaks of true love in practical situations:
Thank you Wai Loon and Su-Zan, we wish you many many blissful years ahead! Hope to see you at Sher Li's wedding soon!
Band: Bevlyn, Ein Ein, Benson
Repertoire:
A Love That Will Last (Solemnisation march-in), Where Do I Begin (Love Story) – 1st march-in, Come Fly With Me, The Way You Look Tonight, Fallen, So Nice, Dream A Little Dream, Kiss Me, Cheek To Cheek, Girl From Ipanema, Fever, For Once In My Life
Everything (2nd march-in), But I Do Love you (bride's dedication to groom), My Cherie Amour, Come Away With Me, I've Got You Under My Skin, La Vie En Rose, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Sway, Moondance, Sympathique

Compliments from Wai Loon:
Hi Bevlyn!
Didn't really have the chance to communicate much with you(if at all) during the pre wedding preparations but here's what I like to say:
Initially when Su-Zan told me she wanted to engage a band for our wedding, I was reluctant to as I was of the view that piped-in music was sufficient. Ok, she still went ahead regardless of my protests...
However, on the day of the wedding and post wedding, I have to give it to Su-Zan that she made the right choice! (not often, in my opinion at least)
Live music with a fantastic vocalist sure beats playing music off CDs. What heartens me most is when ALL (it's true) my guests whom I asked feedbacked to me that the live band was great and that they enjoyed the evening tremendously. That made me very happy as I always held the view that the most important thing for a wedding couple is that their guests enjoy themselves.
So, a big THANK YOU goes out to you, Ein Ein and Benson for making it a night to remember!
Cheers,
Wai Loon =)

Bevlyn's thoughts: 黑白配 (Black And White)
The story between Meiting and Lochin has got to be one of the most amazing ones I've ever heard:
Meiting decided to go for a vacation when she was 16 years old, and during her stay at the Superstar Virgo of Star Cruise, she got to know Lochin (a Burmese), who was an employee onboard. They swiftly fell in love and 'embarked' on a long-distance relationship. Apparently they could only meet on Wednesdays and Saturdays because those were the days when the ship were on dock. 10 years down the road, here we are at their wedding banquet!
Meiting told me before, that even though they had already been to the ROM, and even had the cutest little girl, they still want to have a banquet to celebrate the marriage; one reason was also because she wanted to walk down the aisle in the pretty gown. Well, I suppose all girls can understand that! :)
One song which probably speaks on behalf of the shy couple is 黑白配:
谁说不能黑白配
世界上没有什么事
能够如此的绝对
(Who says black and white don't match? There is no absolutes in this world)
曾经有人这样唱过
白天它不懂夜的黑
你却懂得我的美
(Once someone sang, "The day doesn't know how beautiful the night is." Yet you understand the beauty within me)
钢琴也是黑白键
一样能看出我对你
只有满满的感谢
也许黑永远不明白
在这个彩色的世界
有你我才会存在
(The piano has black and white keys; clearly, they can tell how appreciative I am of you. Perhaps black shall not understand how, in this colourful world, I am alive because of you
It was our first time working with Benson on soprano saxophone, and we had such a great time performing with him! We were also raving on the excellent song choices like 豆浆油条 (Bean Curd & Dough Fritters), 爱爱 (Love), 鸽子 (Dove), 甜甜的 (Sweet). Thank you Meiting for giving us the opportunity to indulge in these songs. We wish you and Lochin everlasting marital bliss!
Band: Bevlyn, Ein Ein & Benson
Repertoire:
Heaven (1st march-in), 两只恋人 (Two Lovers), Love Will Keep Us Alive, 就是爱你 (Just Loving You), 一人一半 (One Half), La Vie En Rose, Hero, 黑白配 (Black And White), Everlasting Love, 第一次 (The First Time), Love Me
When You Say Nothing At All (2nd march-in), Every Day I Love You, 非你莫属 (It Had To Be You), 甜甜的 (Sweet), Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Thank You For Loving Me, Stuck On You, 鸽子 (Dove), Super Star, 豆浆油条 (Bean Curd And Dough Fritter), 爱爱 (Love)
