Cheryl's thoughts: 陪我看日出 (Watch The Sunrise With Me)

Want your wedding party to consist of guys and gals who are fun, rowdy and easy on the eyes? Play beach volleyball. This is the lesson that Audrey and I learnt at Eric and June’s wedding, a couple who are part of a group of friends who regularly meet to play volleyball and hang out.

Audrey and I agree that Eric and June’s wedding dinner was decidedly the funkiest we’ve been to, and that’s saying something. From the moment we were greeted by June’s brother John, dressed in an unconventional silver-grey suit and white shoes, we knew the night was going to be different.

Sure enough, the guests continued to wow us one by one, from the little girl dancing to our music in her tiered flare skirt, to the gorgeous emcee Grace with her satin-decked crutches. June’s mother, Mrs. Ang, who very thoughtfully arranged our presence as a gift to June, was also decked out in a glamorous turquoise gown. From the sight of all these guests, we knew we would be looking at a seriously cool couple tonight.

The fun only continued with the video montage of the morning’s festivities. Over time, I’ve gotten used to seeing the bridesmaids heckle and bully the groom and his buddies for ang pows and other tributes. This was the first time I’ve ever seen a group of groomsmen, all dressed in daring bold purple shirts, take the girls on and tease them back every step of the way. It certainly made for a spicy and exciting morning!

When we finally caught sight of Eric and June, our first thought was that it’s no wonder their guests are so cool. Eric came across as the proverbial “macho man”, who you can depend on to protect you and take care of you, and June, the perfect match by his side, beautiful yet strong in character.

However, when it came time for the toast, Eric showed that he was not a typical “macho man” who’s all rough and tough. In a voice laced with emotion, he spoke of the trials he and June experienced as they journeyed towards this day, and thanked both his parents and June’s parents, presenting them each with a special bouquet of flowers. It was a heartfelt and touching moment that brought tears to our eyes.

To complete our already great night, Eric and June’s funky guests were happily also appreciative guests, clapping, humming and singing along to every song with great enthusiasm, and approaching us after our set to compliment us. It was a true pleasure to perform to such an audience! Special thanks go to John and Mrs. Ang, who went out of their way to make sure that we were well looked after despite being so busy.

Eric and June, we truly enjoyed being a part of your special night. May your life together be filled with love and trust always.

Audrey's Thoughts: Yum Seng!!! (x 5)

Being the new blood of A Little Dream, I am feeling a little excited right now as I contribute my maiden entry to our blog.

It was a pleasure to host and sing for the lovely couple Dennis and Fiona. I had fun working with ZQ and Ian for the first time and we had an appreciative audience who smiled as they listened to our singing and applauded for us generously after most of our repertoire.

My favourite moment (as always actually, I look forward to this in every wedding=p) for the evening was the "Yum Seng" party. Initially, the family, relatives, brothers and sisters were pretty shy to go up on stage and took some time to form the team. But once they got started, you couldn't stop them!

After the first "Yum Seng" which I considered a warm-up, the subsequent ones only got louder and bolder. As I brought my mic to one of the brothers during the second "Yum Seng", I was surprised that he spontaneously passed it around and my mic was lost in the midst of the enthusiastic crowd.

Just when ZQ and I were about to continue with our programme after the traditional three "Yum Seng" toasts, the crowd on stage began their fourth and fifth! Friends and relatives off-stage joined in as well and it was a heart-warming sight. I almost felt that I shouldn't dampen their spirits and should just let the night continue this way.

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: 亲密爱人 (My Lover)

I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I read Yan Ling's account of how she met Kelvin:

"Our relationship started seven years ago. But we had known each other since 1994 when we were in Secondary One. We were both from the same class.

Back then, our form teacher arranged our seats in such a way that I was seated next to a boy who irked me no end with all his nonsensical acts.

Just when I thought my entire secondary school life would be the pits, I saw HIM! There he was, sitting just a few tables away. I swear he had a halo glowing around him. (Try to imagine okay?) “That’s him. My prince.” I thought to myself.

Ever since he caught my attention, I would imagine him standing up for me whenever I got irritated with the boy next to me.

I secretly admired him for two years until we were placed in different classes in the third year. Our paths didn't cross until some years later, at a class gathering. This time, we finally had a chance to talk to each other. He became mature and chattier over the years.

We began to fall for each other. He's gentle and soft-spoken; although he may be a little sotong (blur) at times, he takes really good care of me. With him, I always feel loved. Not for a moment will I ever feel alone."

It's a great story, and I couldn't help but tease Kelvin gently when I met him at the wedding.

Audrey, Matthew, Jon and I enjoyed ourselves very much that night. The well-chosen set of songs included old and new tunes from a mix of genres, and I particularly loved the recommended songs below.

Congratulations, Kelvin and Yanling! May you treasure every moment you spend loving each other.

Compliments from the couple:

Hi Hsin Yeow,

We miss your voices!

Thank you guys for singing at our dinner. We liked it very much. Cool, man!

You guys really have great voices, my wife's sis in law was so impressed by your voices that she teared while you sang. The guests really enjoyed the music though they looked like they were busy eating.

We’ve got all the good feedback and comments from them. We so regret not getting a videographer. We're so glad we had you guys there.

Thank you once again. (Plus 3 rounds of applause)

Cheers

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Crazy Little Thing Called Love

When I received Serena's e-mail, I was worried. She was getting married on 2 Dec, and I wasn't sure if I could find a band for her wedding. After all, we were already divided into four groups that night. I didn't want to foist a band on her if the band's style or repertoire didn't suit her tastes.

Luckily, Serena dropped by Bar Stop one evening to listen to Melissa, Feri, Wah Yong and Audrey perform, and she was sold.

I have always been a big fan of Melissa's dulcet vocals, and I knew the band would deliver a night of beautiful music for Serena and Ian.

Melissa had this to say, "It was a very pleasant wedding gig for all of us. We enjoyed ourselves while performing. The first march-in was a success, as was the second march-in. The couple thanked us and was very appreciative. All in all, the whole night went by smoothly with no hiccups."

The song for the couple's first march-in was Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which is a departure from the usual romantic ballad. I recommended this song to Serena, because it has the line, "I gotta be cool, relax, get hip, get on my tracks, take a back seat, hitch-hike, And take a long ride on my motor bike..."

This was after Serena told me that "prior to the 1st march in, we will be broadcasting a pre-wedding MTV whereby there are parts of us riding in our bikes". It was a perfect fit!

Congratulations, Serena and Ian, on starting this wonderful journey as husband and wife!

P.S. While Melissa and her band were playing in the main ballroom of Four Seasons, Juliet, Joel and Wilson were performing at Crescent ballroom, which is just next door!

Compliments from the Couple:

We would like to convey our BIG THANK YOU to the band; Melissa, Feri, Audrey and Wah Yong who had performed during our wedding on 2 Dec 2007 at Four Seasons Hotel, Four Seasons Ballroom.

They had certainly livened up the ambience of the banquet with their splendid performance of cleverly played music. Melissa’s voice was magical; audiences were bowled over immensely. We were also very impressed with the band’s passion for music; an attribute visibly apparent through their performance be it in Bar Stop or our wedding.

They simply put in their best in all their performances! Kudos to them and thank you for making a difference in our wedding! Last but not least, THANK YOU to A LITTLE DREAM for making this happen!
