Serene's thoughts: Stickwitu

The JTC Club Lounge was the perfect place to chill out and relax complete with a Karaoke system, lounge sofas, a pool table, darts machine, fuse ball, café and an outdoor garden. It was nice to see staff and committee members catching up and mingling over a delectable buffet spread for the Club’s 1st Year Anniversary event.

It was a very special day for the JTC Recreation Club as one of the event highlights of the evening was the launch of the new JTC Recreation Club Logo. A logo design competition was opened to staff members and the winning designer behind the new logo was revealed, to much cheers and applause from the floor.

By popular request from the floor, one of the committee members obliged to an impromptu performance request with an excellent rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, accompanied by Matthew on keys.

A series of activities were also planned such as a “Spot The Difference” game segment followed by a lucky draw. It was a wonderful experience to be a part of this special evening. Jonathan, Matthew and I had a lovely time performing for the staff and committee members, and it was great to feel so at home at the well facilitated and cozy Club Lounge. I remember thinking aloud how wonderful it is to have such a lovely place to relax and hang out after a hard days work or just to bond with colleagues over lunch or coffee!

Special thanks to Mei Yun and the JTC Recreation Club for engaging A Little Dream for this event.

Wah Yong's thoughts: Let's Fall In Love

The 20th Wedding Anniversary of Amy and William Leow, held at the Grand Ballroom of Inter-Continental Hotel, was indeed a special one.

The setting and arrangement of the ballroom was different from a conventional wedding- there were white trees adorned with lights, ribbons and hanging beads, as if white Christmas has arrived in sunny Singapore. Instantly, we were traipsing in a winter wonderland. The tables were covered in black to contrast with the trees, and arranged in long rows instead of round tables. (All thanks to Hannah and her team!)

Thanks, Eng Hong, for sending me these breathtaking photos!

The renewal of Wedding Vows and Exchange of Rings, followed by the lighting of Unity Candle Ceremony onstage as well as with their children at the bridal table made it an especially moving ceremony.

With an experienced and highly entertaining MC in Irene Ang (yes, that Rosie from Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd), we were laughing so hard the whole night. She certainly raised the energy levels of the immaculately dressed crowd, giving the whole night an extra zest. "Sabotages" were the order of the night as she made Amy and William write down their special firsts on separate sheets of paper and later comparing them! Where they had their first dates, where they first kissed, where they "manufactured" their firstborn, Gabriel….

Special speeches by their three children Gabriel, Louisa and little Ephraim, followed by a dedication slideshow made it memorable night for all to remember.

Hi H,

Happy (belated) anniversary!

How are you? It's been a year since I sang for you and M (and 2 years since both of you were solemnised in 2005), and the experience is still fresh in my mind!

We've been busy performing at weddings (almost 100 in 2006 alone!) and other events, but we're very happy to be doing something we love.

Our best wishes to both of you, and I hope to see you again soon!

Cheers
Hsin Yeow

P.S. Have you seen our blog entry of your wedding? Hope it brings back wonderful memories for you!

H's reply:

Hi Hsin Yeow,

Thank you for your wishes. It’s so nice of you to remember. We are both doing well.

Currently, we are in US as I’m doing a Masters. We are also expecting out first baby in June.

How about you?  I heard Little Dream appeared in magazines. Congratulations!

Our best wishes to you too and your growing enterprise.  It’s great that you can pursue what you love as a possible career.

And yes, we have seen your blog too.

Regards,
H and M

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: You're Beautiful

Hock Ann contacted me two months ago with a surprising request, "I'm planning my 20th wedding anniversary. Could you sing for me?"

Darn, if only I could. I had already agreed to sing for Edmund and Brenda, so I had to arrange for a substitute. Luckily, I managed to find Jon Lum, who's a great singer AND fabulous dancer. Who knows, maybe he'll dance for the couple?

Back to Hock Ann, who's proof that romance doesn't fade away with time. He knew early on that he wanted to hold a surprise dinner party, but he needed ideas for the venue and the choice of songs. After scouring the island for a suitable restaurant, he decided on Globetrotters at UE Square.

As for the choice of songs, I was pleasantly surprised that he liked almost all the songs I chose. But one song took me by surprise: James Blunt's You're Beautiful. This was in Hock Ann's list right from the start. The original lyrics aren't suitable, so Hock Ann changed some of the words. But how did he know of the song in the first place?

Hock Ann chuckled, "Oh, my daughter listens to it all the time! In order for me to communicate with my daughter, I must know what she likes, mah!"

An enlightened father and a loving husband, indeed.

Band: Jonathan Lum, Wilson

Repertoire:

Just The Way You Are, Perhaps Love, Longer, Three Times A Lady, You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, Have I Told You Lately?, Beautiful In My Eyes, How Deep Is Your Love, When You Say Nothing At All, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, You'll Be In My Heart, You're Beautiful (changed lyrics), For The First Time, Love Me, I Will Be Here

Wedding Tips:

(1) Celebrate your anniversaries!
(2) If the original lyrics of a song you like are not suitable, write your own!

Compliments from Hock Ann:

Thanks again. We truly had a memorable celebration... indeed my wife was really surprised and touched.

All this would not have been possible if not for your friendly advice/suggestion to "spice" up the whole celebration.

The songs that you recommended were great choices and delivered well by both Jonathan/Wilson. I would strongly recommend them (and maybe yourself and team) for future occasions.

Just one minor feedback. I think the place I have selected probably wasn't perfect because the diners were too close to the bar, as such, because of the "noise" sometimes we were "straining" to listen to all the great songs that were presented.

Depending on the surrounding/situation, maybe it will make sense to "invest" in a "moving mike"?

Other than this minor point, I have absolutely no complaints! Let's stay in touch, maybe we meet again soon.

Hock Ann
