Junxiong's thoughts: 爱爱 (Love Love)

After 5 full years of courtship, ShunYuan & LiYing finally tied their knot together on this very day! Though this wedding couple is a little shy and reserved, they could never hide their happiness from their beaming smiles throughout the night.

The songs chosen by the couple were also very applauded and well-received by the guests. One Chinese love song 爱爱 is especially popular among the guests which easily caught their attention with the up-tempo rhythm and catchy tune. I guess it also subtly describes their feelings for each other:

"让我做你Baby吧愿不愿意, 让我做你老公吧可不可以, 用这首歌当成媒人, 把我和你绑在一起.."

There is another memorable scene during the traditional "yum-seng" session: the sisters were trying real hard to outshine the brother's yum-seng cheerings! That really brought some laughters to all and adds on fun to the entire toasting session.

Apart from this, we also had a little pleasant encounter with the wedding guests: a 9-yr old boy who is still learning pinao was strongly mesmerized by Adeline's (our pianist) keyboard skills, frequently popping by throughout our performance (perhaps it's time to setup a fan-club, Adeline?).

Hi ShunYuan and LiYing,

Our heartiest and most sincere congratulations to the both of you! Thank you for having us to be a part of your happy and joyous memories on this very important occasion. We wish you two an everlasting and blissful marriage with lots and lots of unforgettable moments as you embark on your new life journey! ^_^

Shawn's thoughts: Let Down, Let Go, and Get High

Eager to move, ready to sway.

An intimate group of friends and relatives who boogied a full 90mins and asked for more! Judy, our singer for the evening, was snappy quick to suss out the guests' musical preferences and modified our songlist to hook the "gold people" while entertaining the party fellas. She also got a french guest to dedicate "With Or Without You" by U2 to the couple, with everyone singing along!

Right after our second song "Fallen" (a slow dance tune), the guests were ITCHING TO GYRATE, so we dived 4heads down into rhumba and disco with Buble's Sway, Venus, Summer Rain, September, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Umbrella (everyone went ELLA ELLA EH EH EH), Superstar (then they went ey oh eyoh eyoh!)...

Before our last number, Judy thanked the couple for engaging us. They shouted for encore, and she, once again, improvised and said, "Alright, if you (Preman) were to sing, I'll make it two last songs instead of one..." and the groom sang with all his heart and friends, "Somebody To Love" to his mrs, who ended the tune with the last sentence "somebody....to love....!"

The band didn't perform last night, we partied.

I think the band did a great job! Like how they were willing to break from the script. Though Queen's Somebody To Love is a bit out of my vocal range. ;-)

Hi Hsin Yeow & Shawn,

The music was great!

I enjoyed myself and had lots of fun shooting the guest enjoying and dancing to the music.

I was quite sure that the couple would enjoy A Little Dream's music when I recommended them! It was really nice to see the guest wanting more!

Adeline's thoughts: Forever Love

The bride’s Jie-meis (bridesmaids) were certainly rather innovative in their games when the groom and xiong-dis (groomsmen) came to pick the bride. Very often the bride doesn’t get to experience the fun involved as the groom & xiong-dis try to 'break the gate'. She can only get to see it in a video after the wedding is over. One way around this was to make full use of the wonders of technology - video conferencing!

The highlight of the night would be the special dedication that Dixon sang for his lovely wife, Janette – Forever Love by Lee Hom. It was a complete surprise to Janette for she really did not expect anything of the sort. Dixon’s serenade truly touched Janette’s heart.

To top it off, at the chorus where it goes “Forever Love… Forever Love”, his ever supportive guests joined in and sang it aloud. For a moment, with the dimmed lights and Dixon singing on the stage, it felt like a concert with the couple as the stars of the show.

Jo's thoughts: My Way

It's always lovely to see the enthusiasm that our foreign friends pour into our time-honoured tradition of the Chinese wedding banquet. Justina and Dae Ro are an international couple of Singaporean and Korean origins respectively, and bride, groom and their families threw all aspects of their different cultures into the mix, making for one fabulous fusion banquet!

While ostensibly following the conventional program of the wedding banquet - cake cutting, cross drinking, yam seng and assorted speeches, the entire evening was lifted by sweet or spicy international interjections such as Justina and Dae Ro making moving speeches to their new families in laboriously learnt Korean and Mandarin respectively (very sweet), family members coming onstage to dedicate songs in Hokkien and specially written and harmonised ones in Korean (spicy!), Dae Ro's uncle playing one Korean classic as well as Teresa Teng's 甜蜜蜜 (Honey Sweet) on the saxophone (sweet) and a specially hired and very talented magician, Nique Tan, performing tricks onstage as well as up close for each individual table (very spicy)!

It was a very unconventional and highly highly moving and engaging night, and the band was more than honoured to be part of the intra-Asian warm, wonderful wishes showered on the very goodlooking Justina and Dae Ro.

We wish our own Singaporean blessings on Justina and Dae Ro for a wonderful future ahead=)

Hui Bing's Thoughts: Tonight I Celebrate My Love For You

Lynn and Donny's wedding has several firsts for me. It was the first time hearing the phrase 'Bon appetit' being uttered in more than one language by Lynn and Donny's eloquent emcees. I counted more than 6, which includes Thai, Japanese and Korean. It was definitely a great introduction to the sumptuous dinner which followed.

It was also our first time, singing so many duets for a wedding - 12 in total! We were specially encouraged and pleased by the positive response and applause from Lynn and Donny's guests. In particular, a gentleman stood up, mouthed the lyrics, and even gyrated to the music for a significant part of the dinner. Another first for us! It feels really great to know that a live band really does add to the overall ambience of the wedding.

Jun Xiong's Thoughts: I Finally Found Someone

As the the melodic piece "I finally found someone" was played during Markus and Angelina's wedding photo montage, I felt that it perfectly describes their deep feelings for each other. Here's how the song goes:

" I finally found someone, That knocks me off my feet
I finally found the one, That makes me feel complete ..."

That was also what Markus personally revealed to me with a beaming smile, that Angelina and himself are perfectly made for each other! What a strong conviction that easily makes us envy. The love story of Markus and Angelina is indeed a very unique one where the East meets the West. Markus is an Austrian while Angelina is a true-blue Singaporean. And fate started to bring this couple togther when Angelina first met Markus ten years ago during her university studies in Switzerland. Their love story finally tied the knot blissfully today.  :)

To add-on, this afternoon's lunch reception also had some fun and memorable moments during the traditional "yum-seng" ceremony. The emcees had made some very special requests to the newly weds then: in the 2nd yum seng, the couple needs to kiss each other till the yum-seng toasting ends while for the 3rd yum seng, Markus needs to carry Angelina for as long as the yum seng toasting lasts!

Nevertheless, both these requests were handled without sweat by our lovely weds which brings roars of laughters to the guests. For the 3rd yum seng, Angelina had even wittingly asked for a chair where Markus could sit down comfortably while Angelina rests on his laps.. how clever!!

Markus and Angelina,
We are extremely delighted to be part of your happy memories on this very special day. Once again, thank you for having us to perform at your wedding reception and we sincerely wish you an eternal and everlasting blissful marriage!  ^_^

Adeline's Thoughts: Dream A Little Dream

Sometimes when the crowd is silent, we often wonder if the crowd is actually listening to us. So we continued merrily as we played and sang our renditions of the various songs. We were quite pleasantly surprised to have people coming up to us, giving us their compliments at the end of our set and asking us for our name cards. *Smiles.

When Lisel walked in for her 2nd march-in, the first thing that caught our eyes was her lovely gown. It was very different from what we’re so accustomed to seeing. The threading of the floral embroidery was not overpowering at all. It just nicely enhanced the overall design of the gown. It’s still very much etched in my mind right now.

We definitely had an enjoyable time playing for Stanley and Lisel’s wedding and we’re glad to have been a part of your most special day. We wish you everlasting love as you continue on this journey together.

Adeline’s Thoughts: 每天爱你多一些 (Every Day I Love You More)

Indeed opposites attract. The first thing that struck me about Han Boon was how affable and gregarious he was, being so comfortable addressing the crowd. Xiaoxian, on the otherhand was this very poised and demure lady who exudes a calm demeanour. He would always make her laugh and she would never fail to give him her support. They definitely complement each other perfectly.

The highlight of the event was undeniably the song dedication by Vincent, Han Boon’s friend. According to Boon, if you close your eyes and just listen to Vincent, he sounds like Jacky Cheung. That was why he requested for Vincent to sing a song during the dinner and made the arrangement for me to accompany him with 每天爱你多一些 (Every Day I Love You More).

Without a doubt, we were impressed by his voice and Huibing was quick to suggest “How about singing a duet with me?” Since Vincent was more comfortable with Mandarin songs, and not to mention he has a “Jacky Cheung“ voice, it was decided that he would sing 你最珍贵 (You're The Most Previous One) with her. No problems at all. One run was all it took and voila. He got the crowd listening to him. I’m sure Vincent enjoyed himself just as we did having him to sing with us. More importantly, he sang it to dedicate the song to the couple. And that’s what really mattered.

Huibing and I really enjoyed ourselves playing for Han Boon and Xiaoxian’s. It’s always encouraging to receive applauses and compliments from the audience. To Han Boon and Xiaoxian, thank you for inviting us to be a part of your wedding. Our heartfelt congratulations to the both of you!

On a side note, just as Huibing and I were leaving the ballroom, after taking our pictures with the couple, Huibing noticed how caring and meticulous Han Boon was. He had stooped down and patiently buckled Xiaoxian’s shoe which had come undone. It’s really these little things that show how sweet and thoughtful your partner can be.

Bevlyn's Thoughts: Dance In The Old Fashioned Way

Esther and Huan's wedding was held at Au Petit Salut, the intimate and cosy French restaurant tucked deep in the greens along Harding Rd. The solemnisation ceremony was conducted in a room opposite the dining hall, and the hall became the holding room for Esther and Huan before they march-in for the ceremony. Adeline and I were by the piano doing a little rehearsal for the chansons to be performed later that evening, though I have to say we were most often than not distracted by the culinary works of the French master chef in his open kitchen on the other end!

Photobucket

The Singaporean female emcee is a good friend of Esther while the French male emcee is a good friend of Huan. Everybody enjoyed the chemistry displayed by both when they recounted their own takes of how the couple got together, and of course each claimed to be authentic. The microphone was passed to the horses' mouths and finally Esther admitted it was Huan's warm family who won her over when she visited Huan during one of her holidays.

Photobucket

The game played that evening had got to be one of the funniest I'd ever seen. Esther and Huan sat backfaced to each other. With 1 of their shoes in 1 hand and the partner's shoe in the other, they answered the emcee's questions. For instance, "Who is more vain?", "Who initated the first kiss?", "Who is more likely to pass gas?" etc. It was definitely good laugh for the guests as well because some of the answers were rather unexpected!

One other highlight was the first dance by the couple, along to our performance of "Close to you". What gave me great joy was when a few other couples spontaneously came up to dance at the later part of the evening. Adeline and I definitely had a great time performing to the intimate crowd, and catching up with the talented photographer Eu Lee over great French cuisine!

One great song we enjoyed doing was the French chanson Dance In The Old Fashioned Way:

Ariel's Thoughts: Yellow

Neal and Geraldine wanted a simple and elegant wedding that would be memorable. With their dedicated and fun-loving friends tending to every intricate detail of the wedding, we believe that the couple had already accomplished their mission just minutes into the wedding dinner. What better way to celebrate one's marriage union than with the company of close friends and family!

Neal's best man certainly did an excellent job to keep the celebratory mood alive with his heartwarming speech peppered with humorous anecdotes.

Sharing a few marriage tips from his father, Neal's best man reminded him of three important words to constantly repeat to Geraldine: You are right! When Neal and Geraldine took the stage to speak, I believe everyone could feel the love that the couple has for each other, particularly when Neal looked into Geraldine's eyes as he affirmed his dad's comment that he had married a beautiful and intelligent woman. Perpetuating the atmosphere of love and devotion was ZQ's rendition of Coldplay's Yellow, which moved all our hearts...

Look at the stars, look how they shine for you
and everything you do....

The band really enjoyed the wedding dinner, which was not only fun-filled but also had a pleasant surprise for us! We were really touched when the groom brought along a few packets of chicken rice for us, apparently a treat from an anonymous guest. Whoever he/she may be, we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the kind gesture ^_^ Also, kudos to Four Seasons, which fielded experienced and professional banquet staff who constantly walked about the ballroom to attend to the guests.

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: The One You Love

Michelle and Sam met in Sydney in May 2004 at a function through mutual friends. It wasn’t love at first sight; nevertheless, there was mutual affection which grew out of after spending more time together. Michelle felt that what connected them was that, "We’re simple natured people and we seek happiness in the small things in life. We value family and friends."

Michelle also told me, "Sam expressed his love for me first after we went on a holiday to Brisbane in April 2006 but I wasn’t so sure of him then. He had to put in a lot of effort to convince me that he was the one for me. Sam’s sincerity, honesty and caring nature made me realise that he was a genuine bloke who always tries to make me happy and I decided to give him a chance."

"Other qualities I love about Sam are his loyalty towards his family and close friends, his doggedness to pursue something he truly believes in, his corny sense of humour and his acceptance of me – inclusive of warts and all."

I loved that Michelle gave me so much detail about their relationship, so I decided to quiz Sam. It turned out that he had a pretty good memory and could recall the place, date and year of their first meeting and the time when he professed his love. He even revealed that he felt compelled to do the latter because he had just attended a wedding!

He even got the third and hardest question right! It was about a memorable holiday that Michelle took with Sam in Jan 2006: Michelle hiked up a mountain and suffered blisters after the 5-hour trek! She also beat Sam hands down at fishing for trout when they stopped at a trout farm for fun. She caught one after 2 tries whereas he took at least 4 or 5 tries.

The question: "Name the mountain and its height!" Sam said confidently, "Mt Kosciuszko, 2,200m!" (Close enough: the actual height is 2,228m) After that, Sam and Michelle shared a lingering kiss, to the guests' delight!

Another memorable moment at the wedding was when Sam gamely agreed to sing, "I Just Called To Say I Love You" and dedicated it to both Michelle and his mom (it was his mom's favourite song)

Compliments:

Sam and I sincerely thank Hsin Yeow, Juliet and Adeline for their wonderful musical performance at our wedding reception as it made the night lively and enjoyable.

Sam and I enjoyed the music performance very much as all the songs on the list represent different aspects of our relationship thus far. I think Sam was very brave to sing live in front of everybody and he deserves kudos for having backup from the band during his solo performance.

Our guests also had very favourable reviews of the band’s performance that night based on their various comments and feedback to us. Thank you again for helping to make our wedding night memorable!

Song To Recommend:

The One You Love - If not for Michelle and Sam, I probably would not have the opportunity to perform this at a wedding. The lyrics speak of someone who has to decide between being with someone who loves her and or someone she loves. For Michelle, I know she loves Sam with all her heart, and is loved in return.

Josephine's thoughts: Our Love Is Here To Stay

The devil is in the detail, which is perhaps why I found the wedding of Dexter and Elisabeth last Sunday so devilishly divine.

Held in the beautiful Fullerton, rooftop cocktails accompanied by an evening view of the old city segued into dinner in the charming Straits Room one floor and gilded-elevator ride below. Guests were dressed to impress in tasteful cocktail outfits, and took their seats as among the select few close friends, colleagues and relatives to grace this cosy wedding gathering. Each table was gracefully furnished with everything necessary to make them complete, including wedding favours in the form of wedlock-themed luggage tags or minature music-boxes that chimed La Vie En Rose, all of which set off a mild scuffle among the ladies for the favours of choice.

With everything running smooth as clockwork, the stars of the evening were introduced in a beautifully put together video montage at 740pm, were announced at 745 and entered the hall immediately after, Dexter suave in a suit and Elisabeth floating on a cloud of white chiffon to their seats…I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a bride carry off what could have become ostentatious couture so well, but the beautiful Elisabeth definitely did, to thunderous cheers and applause from the genuinely delighted guests!

Dinner was served, with each course pre-ladled into serving bowls, and the band was struck up…that’s us, being myself on vocals, Adeline on the lovely Fullerton piano, Wah Yong providing bass on the bass, and Shawn on his stunning collection of percussion instruments complete with djembe, all playing Elisabeth’s thoughtful, and very varied selection of love songs.

It was lovely to do jazz numbers which definitely couldn’t be called ‘standards’ and a minute later do pop, Queen’s rock numbers, and then Chinese and Hokkien songs, though the favourite of Dexter’s family was definitely 一人一半 (One Half) in Hokkien, the performance of which was followed by clamours for more! Personally, the band would like to commend this couple’s taste which we very much share, and from the warm support of the rest of the guests, we hope they did as well!

As the dinner proceeded and with videos of the brothers doing star-jumps, yam sengs, and Dexter and Elisabeth’s very moving speeches, the charming mood of the Straits Room gave way to increasingly relaxed merriment, and we were very infected by the laughter and whooping of the brothers and sisters and especially of one lovely female relative with funky hair sitting right in front of our band setup, who determinedly harangued Dexter with cries of ‘Handsome Boy!’ and “Kiss Her!’ all of which we highly agreed with.

THANK YOU for giving us a night to remember !!

Bevlyn, Thank you also for the prompt responses always :-)

Bevlyn's Thoughts: Always and Forever

Michelle and Julian are based in Hong Kong, so I can imagine how hard it was for them to coordinate a wedding in Singapore. Nevertheless, Julian had the idea of singing a song to serenade his wife with the help of the band. I promptly forwarded the Youtube link of <<为你钟情>> by Leslie Chung (without hearing it myself) to Adeline and Shawn so that they could accompany him on the day. Hence, the first time I officially hear the song was from Julian's mouth - I was blown-away, not only by the super beautiful melody, but also by Julian's thick baritone voice, sincerely sung to his bride who soon teared a verse into the song.

You might too, if you listen to this:

Though Julian was a tad nervous before the start of it (which was very forgivable because he did not even rehearse with the band when we arrived), he soon found his ground and wowed everyone to give him wild applause at the end of it.

I've always loved speeches at weddings, and this wedding is really memorable for the excellent speeches by two of Julian's good friends cum colleagues, and Michelle's best friend. Apparently the couple had gotten to be more acquainted with each other when they were sent to Hong Kong on a work assignment. After years of marathon-dating, finally Julian popped the question!

Another highlight of the wedding was to see Gilbert from 9 Frames! See the promotion we have with 9 Frames here. We're thrilled to have these beautiful photos from Gilbert:

Congratulations, Michelle and Julian! All the best to you as you embark on this exciting journey as husband and wife!

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Can't Take My Eyes Off You

Jeremy got it right when he began his speech by quoting a line he found on the Internet, "It's not about finding someone to live with for the rest of your life, it's about finding someone you can't live without."

After seven years of courtship, he knew, without a doubt, that Hui Li was the one for him.

Hui Li, the lovely bride, was even more effusive in her praise. Jeremy was her knight in shining armour, the fulfillment of her childhood dream. She also hoped that everyone in the ballroom would find someone who meant as much as Jeremy meant to her.

The celebration was marked by expressions of love, not just in spoken words, but spontaneous actions. I planted a little seed of a thought in Jeremy's head when I asked him, before the banquet began, if he'd like to sing a song for Hui Li. He dismissed the idea initially, but that seed grew and grew, until he volunteered himself for the task when I went to him again.

Hui Li covered her mouth in surprise, and even asked him not to go ahead. My guess is that Jeremy felt so high that he really threw caution to the wind. Of course, I aided his bravado by promising him help should he need it. He didn't.

He sang his chosen song, "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" without any hitches; in fact, he felt so comfortable he was moving his body to the music. Everyone applauded him when he finished, and he went back to Hui Li with a huge smile on his face.

It was a really satisfying night for me. Quite a number of guests came up to us and complimented our performance, especially Serene's smoky, soulful vocals. And when I walked past a table, one lady called out to me and said, "Thank you for singing Lucky. This is the best wedding I've ever attended, with a live band!" The pleasure was all mine, thank you.

To Jeremy and Hui Li - we had a blast! Thank you so much for engaging us. May you both enjoy a blissful, joyous marriage, with "busloads" (that's what Charles said, I recall) of children!

Songs To Recommend:

For The Longest Time (video) - A Billy Joel classic. One of my favourite a capella songs!

Suddenly I See - Serene got a lot of applause for this groovy number!

Seasons Of Love - For fans of musicals, this song needs no further introduction. Not entirely suitable for a wedding, but it's one of Hui Li's favourites.

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Summer Rain

Emotions ran high at Shyann and Lennon's wedding. From shedding tears of happiness to dancing with all out abandon, the couple traversed the emotional extremes in one night.

The dinner started out rather sedate, as the guests quietly enjoyed the soothing music. It was an intimate wedding; Shyann and Lennon only invited a close group of about 100 family members and friends. And what I love about cosy wedding is this: the couple had time to walk to every table and talk to their guests!

But when it was time for Shyann to give a speech, tears started streaming down her face. It was a touching moment as she paid tribute to her group of close girl friends; one, in particular, shed tears as well.

When it came to Lennon, he took time to give thanks to every table in the audience. He thanked his buddies for helping him out that morning by supporting him through the gate-crashing antics. He also unwittingly revealed the secret behind his trim figure when he thanked his friends who keep him "slim by playing badminton every Tuesday."

I knew Shyann and Lennon's wedding night was going to be special because she had a clear vision of what she wanted for the music. The brief was "RnB then mambo", a simple yet challenging set of instructions.

Luckily, I found able musicians to back me up. Adeline took charge of the piano, while Ivan thrilled with his saxophone solos. Shawn, the resourceful drummer, ended the night with a literal bang as he rocked the house with his powerful drumming.

Adeline’s thoughts: 每天爱你多一些 (Love You A Little More Each Day)

It was a cosy affair at the Galleria Ballroom. Joe and Pingzi are a really loving who were at ease throughout the wedding. I’m sure Joe must have felt elated and thrilled that he is finally married to his dearest but whatever jitters felt was sure hidden away from the eyes from the crowd. A very friendly couple, Joe even came to us twice to ensure that we had our dinner.

Joe and Pingzi got to know each other when they were at NUS, studying Electrical Engineering. (Coincidentally, Junxiong was also in the same faculty, albeit a few years earlier.)

Photobucket

Although it took a year for Joe to get the phone number of a "cute" Pingzi, who caught his attention when she was "walking around the lecture hall", Joe won Pingzi over rather quickly. This was fortunate, as the relationship was tested when Joe left for Germany to attend a year-long Student Exchange Program. It was a tough time for both of them.

Luckily, their feelings for each other endured, and culminated in a romantic proposal aboard a cable car on 31 Jan 2008. Pingzi was "really touched and surprised" when Joe took out the ring, flowers and popped the question.

We opened the night with an evergreen favourite, Barry Manilow’s Can’t Smile Without You but what really got the audience warmed up was Junxiong’s Cantonese rendition of Jacky Cheung’s 每天爱你多一些 (Love You a Little More Each Day). In no time, some were bobbing their heads and humming to the tunes specially selected by the couple. Some of the children present also came by the area where the band was and were mesmerized by Lim Hui’s playing. The little ones definitely brought smiles to the faces of the band.

Our congratulations and best wishes to Joe and Pingzi. May you be blessed with everlasting love and happiness. We're glad to have performed for their wedding and hope they enjoyed it too.

Compliments:

The team's (Junxiong, Adeline, Lim Hui) performance was great. It's a pity we only got to listen to several songs as we had to do the changing for march in. We had many positive feedback from guests that their performance was very good.

It's definitely the right choice to engage the band. It really brightened up our special occasion.

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: You Needed Me

Dear Hsin Yeow, actually, you are the first person who knows the story of how we got together. Haha... we planned to tell our kids about it in the future, but it turned out to be you.

- Serene

Being the emcee is fun. At Serene and Sun, I put Sun in the hotspot by asking them some questions based on their relationship. I'd gotten some details from Serene and I wanted to know if Sun still remembered them.

Question 1:

In the past 7 years, both of you have met each other almost every day. What was the longest (and shortest) length of time you'd been apart?

Sun's answer:

Longest: 1 week, shortest: 1 day

Serene's answer:

"I think the longest length of time we'd been apart was when I went to Taiwan for 5 days; the shortest was only 2 days. Some of my friends wonder how is it that we won't get sick of each other. Actually, we feel that this goes to show how strong the relationship can be."

Question 2:

What vehicle were you driving on their first date?

Sun's answer:

It was a rented van.

Serene's answer:

"He was driving in what seemed like a Police Van."

(I don't know about you ladies, but if my date drove up to me in a Police Van on our first date, I'd either be mighty impressed or turned off. I guess Serene was the former.)

Question 3:

"What question did you ask Serene in that cable car?"

Sun's answer: Will you marry me?

Serene's answer:

"He hadn't proposed to me when we decided to get solemnised on 7th July 07. On 14th June, he suddenly told me that he had to meet a friend at Mt Faber. I started to get suspicious, and true enough, he proposed to me when we were hanging in the sky. (Actually, I was shivering the moment I stepped into the cable car.) So I said Yes!

We had such a great time at Serene and Sun's wedding! We really connected with the guests, many of whom made song requests. Thanks to Adeline's incredible powers of improvisation, we did Anne Murray's classic You Needed Me without any prior rehearsal. Serene's cousin also came up to join me in singing Save The Last Dance For Me, which was fun!

Congratulations Serene and Sun! Thank you for sharing your story with me. I feel extremely privileged!

Hui Bing’s Thoughts: You Will Never Walk Alone

I always feel that traveling is one of the best ways to get a sense whether you can be together with a certain someone for a longtime. For Thomas and Agnes, I am sure that their love for each other strengthened with every trip that they had together, and they had many J

“As we both love to travel to new places, during the last 19 months of dating, we visited Hong Kong, Macau, Tokyo, San Franciso, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Rome, Pisa, Venice, Milan and toured most of Switzerland. It was during the trip to Italy, on a gondola ride in the canal of Venice, that Thomas pop the question (yes on his knees in the gondola). It was a really beautiful and breezy morning.”

Thomas and Agnes’ wedding was a simple classy affair, with no second march-ins or video montages. Which gave them plenty of time to mingle and converse with their guests while we performed a series of jazz, pop and Mandarin songs.

Dear Thomas and Agnes, thanks for having us at your wedding. We wish you everlasting love and happiness, and more travels ahead!

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: 我要你的爱 (I Want Your Love)

The first things that caught my eye at Johnson and Queenie's wedding were the favours. There were two different kinds; depending where you sit, you either get a red photoframe or a set of wine charms that spell L-O-V-E.

Photobucket

Hosted by the actor Jason Chan (a family friend), the wedding celebrations got off to a great start. Bevlyn sang Fallen, and the guests welcomed Johnson and Queenie into the grand ballroom with loud applause.

I managed to take two photos of the couple, who looked really good together!

Photobucket

Photobucket

What really made the night memorable for me happened right at the end, during our final song in fact. I had asked Queenie to add in 我要你的爱 (I Want Your Love) into the song list, because it usually elicits a lot of response from the audience, especially during the chorus. The moment Bevlyn started singing it, I saw a bunch of guys sitting at a table in front of us bobbing to the music. I quickly went over with my microphone, and got a few of them to echo the words 我要! (I want!) during the chorus!

Then I heard cries of, "He's a good singer, get him to sing!" I turned around, and saw several people pointing at another guy, who tried unsuccessfully to look away. He wasn't going to get off so easily. I managed to persuade him to sing, and when he took the microphone, he suddenly morphed into Singapore Idol. It was amazing, because next thing I knew, he was dancing with Bevlyn and hitting all the high notes. It was a great end to the evening!

Compliments from Johnson and Queenie:

Dear Hsin Yeow

A big big thank you to you and your band for the wonderful performance throughout the dinner!

I can see that my guests have enjoyed themselves thoroughly and you guys even managed to get a few to sing! It's all good fun and we have enjoyed ourselves too!

Hope the dinner was fine for you and your band. We hope to have an opportunity to engage your band in the near future! Thanks a mill once again!

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: When You Say Nothing At All

Justin and Susan's four-year relationship grew out of a shared hobby of rollerblading. Like what Alex told me before, the sport was a perfect excuse for couples to balance themselves by holding hands.

Being quite shy, Justin and Susan decided to do away with onstage games and even the traditional thank-you speech at their wedding lunch reception at Marina Mandarin.

Instead, they let live music be the focus of their wedding celebration. I was really glad that Justin found us, as I share his belief that live music is a necessary element at a wedding.

Adeline and I enjoyed ourselves, singing mainly English pop and oldies. I also dedicated When You Say Nothing At All to Susan. Thought the song was a good match for the quiet and lovely Susan, who smiled beautifully throughout the song.

After singing a set of English songs, we received a request to perform a Mandarin number. Of course we obliged, and performed the evergreen 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart). Judging from the applause, the guests enjoyed it very much!

Congratulations Justin and Susan! Wishing you love and happiness in your marriage!
