new developments

  • Jul. 24th, 2008 at 11:07 PM
so many things happening that it's really a little difficult to keep track, but it's all exciting nevertheless so here's a sorry attempt anyway:

: new colleague on board. we seem to get along - big whoop!
: seeing friends on the job is always such a great thing
: meeting nice people is good
: lombok, watch out! and here i thought we were looking for a holiday...
: amsterdam, here i come?

in other news, sally goes for her op tomorrow. poor baby. i can't believe she was only a tiny flat-faced pup just awhile ago and now she's all grown up. i'm going to drop her by the vet tomorrow morning before work. it's going to be tough separating her from rosco for the day....

note: where are the darn PD results already?

cross-post

  • Jul. 24th, 2008 at 11:04 PM
In my bid to do something for a change, I changed my username over in Livejournal. Little did I know it'll cause so much inconvenience to my cross-posting. SIGHHHH! Everytime I try to cross-post my entry, this shows up:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_post_tags() in /home/tays1010/public_html/wp-content/plugins/ljxp/lj_crosspost.php on line 527

I've tried to ask for help over here and there, but it doesn't seem like I'll be getting any anytime soon. :( I miss my cross-posting-to-LJ very much.

Italy Honeymoon: Venice

  • Jul. 24th, 2008 at 7:55 PM
Oh, Venice. Dreamy, romantic and seemingly surreal Venice.

It now ranks right up there amongst the most interesting and beautiful places in the world I have been to, what with its cat's cradle of meandering and interwined lanes and canals, the splendour of its architecture, the charming pink-tinted lamp posts that dot the city, the Venetian love for the most spectacular theatrical masks and costumes, the entertaining five-piece orchestral bands that take turns to play and enthrall the audience at St. Mark's Square every night. And for the first time in our trip, we felt like we didn't need to go into any of the museums or churches - the streets themselves were fascinating enough - and we didn't at all!

Venice just defies description - really, it has to be seen, felt and wandered through to be believed.

The city's main mode of public transport is the vaporetto (water taxi) but we walked most of the time. I thought the absence of cars made our stay a particularly pleasant experience. And even though we kept finding ourselves hopelessly lost in the endless maze of backstreets, we couldn't help but fall heads over heels in love with the city so much so that we decided to extend our stay for a day longer (in exchange for a day of shopping in Milan, ha!).

I am so very glad this was our last stop in the honeymoon. We enjoyed Italy tremendously. It felt like a reward and rare treat just being able to get away - just the two of us newlyweds (!) - and being able to celebrate the marriage in our own little way.

This brings me to the end of my Italy travelogue - hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have in putting it together :)

Regular programming to resume soon!

I wish I have 48 hours a day. Or maybe even 72 hours a day.

Or it would be good to have 2 of me. Or even 3 of me. So much things to do that I don't even have time to get hungry..

I do love my job although there's times when I really feel like throwing in the towel.

I'm caffeined-high.

At Last the Truth Can Be Told!

  • Jul. 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 PM

My friends, a sinister enemy walks among us -- perhaps in your very house.  It comes from the distant reaches of another galaxy, yet takes the form of an innocent house cat, gaining our trust, then ... stealing our very thoughts while we sleep!!   My friend, we cannot keep this a secret any longer.  Can your heart stand the shocking facts of ... BRAIN ROBBERS FROM OUTER SPACE?!?

That ATM password has GOT to be in here somewhere.

I want to believe, Jill H.

Sometimes in life...

... you just need to shout "WHATEVER!" to things that shouldn't bother you that much.

So cummon, do it with me and shout

WHATEVER! (roll your eyes too if needed. ;p)

Life goes on. Time doesn't wait. So, shouldn't time be wisely spent on people and tasks that are worthy?

WHATEVER!
She has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia 16 months ago. After her first treatment of chemotherapy, she was in remission for only a year. The Leukemia has relapsed, and she will need a bone marrow stem cell donation this time. It is very very urgent.

Her brother has been tested negative already as a potential donor. According to her tissue type, anyone can be a possibility, related or unrelated. This is where you can help.

>>BE A REGISTERED DONOR<<
Visit your local bone marrow stem cell registry to get yourself tested and registered. All it takes is a simple blood test (in Canada it is CHEEK CELL SAMPLE) to determine your bone marrow / stem cell profile for matching purposes, and there is no obligation to donate, YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE. Not only will you be helping Carolyn, but also any one else in the world who needs a bone
marrow/stem cell transplant.

>>>SPREAD THE WORD<<<
Tell your friends, family and colleagues. One simple email or the like, can go a long long way. We have an email template written up, a Facebook group set up along with a website all ready to go for you to spread the word. Please if you could, FOLLOW UP ON 5 FRIENDS and see whether they have registered or not, this could really help speed up the process and is the only way to increase Carolyn's chances is to increase the number of registrants.

> GET ALL TAM's & LAU's YOU KNOW TO REGISTER <
The preliminary search of the International Pool came back negative. Since we are dealing with genetics, trying all Tam's and Lau's might be worth a try!

>>>>CONTACT US<<<<
Should you have any questions or simply want a quick answer, just contact any one of us. We will be more than happy to assist you in helping Carolyn any time.

We have a lot of work to do, not only for Carolyn, but also for those in need of a donor to CONTINUE THEIR LIVES.

Thanks, and God (or whatever you believe in) Bless.

ERP woes

  • Jul. 24th, 2008 at 12:01 PM
Ang Mo Kio, Yio Chu Kang and Yishun areas ought to be labeled as prime residential areas. Where else in Singapore do you have to pay at least $5 just to use the only most direct highway to get to the business district where many of us work, and again, pay about another $5 to get home? That's NOT including the cost of higher petrol consumption of vehicles during congestion.

The husb and I try our best to get into city area before 8am every single morning so that we can avoid 1 out of the 4 gantries we have to pass in order to reach our offices. Wet weather and minor accidents on the highway worsen the congestion much more. Whenever we are just a couple of minutes away from the gantry, it gets really really stressful.

23 minutes from YCK to City on a route which usually takes 13 minutes when it's congestion-free. Vehicles going at average of 30km/hr on a road which allows up to 90km/hr. YET, we are still paying so much with the ERP gantries. Honestly, how ERP eases the peak-hour traffic, I have no idea!

Being the dutiful husband who usually knocks off earlier than the wife, my dearest fetches me from work every day too. With the addition of the new ERP charges to enter Marina area from 6-8pm, the husb has to pay extra just to come by to pick me. See la, how to promote long-lasting marriages and pro-family campaigns!

A rough estimate of the amount of ERP we are paying every month made me realized that it was what I would have to pay for a gym membership near my office. If we had to spend that amount of money every month, it might as well be for something beneficial to the both of us!

Inflation and cost of living are increasing too fast, just like my age. :\

a house to call my own

I don’t ask for much… just a playhouse would be fine. This one to be exact. It looks perfect to be turned into a hobby house. A lil corner to work in, showcase the items and have tea parties. I wonder if they customise up for an adult. Probably it would cost a pretty (BIG!) penny. This model is already USD 23,400.00.

Oooh, how I detest writing reviews for movies like this. No, don't get me wrong. I love it. It is just the type of movie I would get so much kick watching. The plot is brilliant. No matter how much I have tried to predict the next scene, the movie manages to outsmart me. The cast is superb. The late Heath Ledger's role is really meaty and juicy(just like the way he licks his lips in hunger). He did not disappoint us neither did he astound us. Aaron Eckhart is finally entitled to the overdue exposure after a Oscar-miss for his "Thank you for smoking".

But you won't enjoy this movie. It is dark and heavy as if the air in the theatre has stood still. There is no adrenaline staged up; the fear is so real and intense that it seems to be happening right at your doorstep. In fact, it has been sometime since I become so emotionally involved in a movie.

Unfortunately, more attention could be spent in Aaron's role, which fail to match the intensity given to the Joker. The movie is a tad too lengthy and can be split up for a tighter version. But I still love it to death, seriously.

My Rating: A-

"The Dark Knight" is now showing at Golden Village theatres and Cathay Cineplexes.

According to CNN, the hottest new spa treatment in the Washington, DC area is fish pedicures, where tiny, toothless carp nibble away all your dead skin, for the nom-nom-nominal fee of $35.  According to customers, the treatment produces just a tingling sensation: "It kind of feels like your foot's asleep," says one.  It's all happening at Yvonne Hair and Nails salon, where the elite meet to become a fishy treat.

Fish are friends -- YOU'RE food.

You first, Angelina R.
