Shoujie's thoughts: It's The Little Things...

Children at weddings are often a source of never-ending merriment, and at the wedding, a little girl caught our attention, as we seemed to catch hers. In the middle of the second set, after we had cheered as the traditional toast was proposed to the couple, and heard the groom pass Hsin Yeow's "mini-quiz" with flying colours, we noticed that she kept watching us perform our songs and even bounced along to the music!

The presence of a captivated child certainly made us smile, especially Ein Ein, who told me to "look at the girl watching us, she's so cute!" Music can have that transfixing effect, and often the cheerfulness spreads around the whole band, as well as the tables near us. Relatives would point to the keyboard and the violin and she would smile, or sing along to the tunes Bevlyn and Hsin Yeow were singing. Ein Ein and I kept watching her as we played, almost as if we were playing for her. It is a very significant feeling, to have caught someone else with the music that one is creating, and rewarding for the musician as it is (hopefully!) for the appreciative listener. Significant moments like these etch themselves into our memories, and there are few better moments to remember than a wedding, which is a momentous event for the couple as well as their family and friends.

Little things like these inject a further sense of happiness and good-natured feeling into an already memorable evening, and should never be underestimated. Thank you to the bride and groom for allowing us to be part of such a beautiful occasion!

Hsin Yeow: I'm always excited when we have Shoujie to play for us. The exquisite sound of a violin adds so much colour and emotion into a love song that I am often moved to tears.
