Bevlyn's thoughts: I Finally Found Someone

Randy and Elaine had heard my band and I at Stanley & Eunice's wedding last year, and had decided at that moment he would want the band to perform for his own wedding.

Earlier this year, Randy contacted me and told me the wedding would be in July or August. But when he contacted me again to finalise the booking, it was about one week before his big day in October. Apparently, both of them had wanted to go with a low-key solemnisation, but was chided by their friends to hold a dinner for all.

It was easy to tell Elaine means the world to Randy because the song choices are mostly catered to her liking. After the speech, Randy sprung a surprise on Elaine by singing Have I Told You Lately, a song which he thinks offers much meaning to their everyday lives. Randy did not rehearse with the band prior to that, and we all think he did a very smashing and heartfelt rendition of that piece.

Elaine first caught Randy's eyes when he saw her in an ice-cream parlour in Perth, Australia 3 years ago. The first thing that struck his mind was 'Wah, what a tall lady!'. According to Randy, it was rather rare to find such a tall Chinese girl in Australia, and that was the first quality that attracted him. From then on, he became a regular patron of the shop for obvious reasons. But it was not until a year later that Randy finally asked Elaine out for a cup of coffee.

Probably that was why Elaine loves the song I Finally Found Someone so much:

I finally found the one, who makes me feel complete
We started over coffee, we started out as friends
It's funny how from simple things, the best things begin
The band performed the song, and I invited the couple to do a first dance to that. Shortly after, 3 other couples joined in the dance floor. Another song specifically requested by Randy was Because You Loved Me, of course another of Elaine's favourites.

And although the band did jam up some fast songs like Sway, Save The Last Dance For Me and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, we couldn't really get the shy crowd to dance to the faster numbers. But one sign to show us that people were taking to our music was when we see them singing along with us (even the waiters and captains)!

One of the guests, Mr Peter Tay, eventually succumbed to the singing bugs and volunteered to sing 'Sukiyaki' as a dedication to the couple.
