Hsin Yeow's thoughts: 夜上海 (Night In Shanghai)

Bevlyn said that performing at Peony-Jade Restaurant was like "coming home".

Something about the attentive staff whom we know by name (Pamela, Leon, Kenny - if anyone of you is reading this - a big wave from us!), the great food (that we were privileged to enjoy on a few occasions) and the beautiful surroundings just made us want to go back there again and again.

Steven and Lindy were an easy-going couple, and gave us carte blanche to come up with a song list for them. Hence, we chose some Shanghai Jazz numbers, some pop hits and classics, hoping that our choices would appeal to as many people as possible.

My favourite segment was the Shanghai jazz group of songs: 夜来香 (Fragrance In The Night), 夜上海 (Night In Shanghai) and 我要你的爱 (I Want Your Love). These songs are what I consider de rigueur for a place like Peony-Jade. It wasn't surprising for us to see the older generation of guests bobbing their heads to the music.

What did surprise us was the reaction of two little girls, who were no more than twelve, in my estimation.

We love to watch the reaction of kids to our music, since they are often our harshest and most direct critics. Thankfully, the two girls were singing along to most of our songs, even to classics like 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart). How did they know of these songs, I wonder?
