Bevlyn's thoughts: I Knew I Loved You
I met up with Gregory and Joanna briefly at Le Meridien last August, armed only with my brother's laptop to show them some videoclips of our performances.
Even though I had some trouble operating the laptop, it didn't take long for Gregory and Joanna to decide on engaging us after viewing the video clips. From there, we exchanged numerous emails to decide on the songlist with them in London all those while.
As the couple, their best man (Jason) and maid of honour (Aghileh) are not locals, the banquet was totally refreshingly different from what we see all the time. Greg and Jo marched in to their seats, chatted with their table of friends and relatives for a bit before they were invited up the stage to cut the cake.
An interesting and intimate highlight of the evening was the speeches made by Aghileh and Jason. Aghileh recalled how she had tried for 2 years to be Jo's good friend back in high school because Jo's maths was fantastic. Jo finally relented and they became the best of friends ever from then on. And even then, Jo kept the development of her relationship with Greg under wraps from her for at least a year! Jason on the other hand, gave an interesting account of how he saw Greg and Jo develop from colleagues to lovers. Apparently Jason and Greg are very good friends due to the number of interests they share. Jo even suspected they are long-lost brothers!
The couple soon proceeded to have their romantic first dance, to the music of My One and Only Love (by Rod Stewart). After that, the band's fun began!
I was looking forward to this wedding because it was the first time we perform as a full-band (Shawn on drums, Butter on bass, Ein on keyboard, Wilson on guitar and I on vocals). It was small dream came true for me, to be backed by a full-band because the richness of the music was mind-blowing, which in turn fed into my singing.
Because of the drum and bass, we were able to bring out the groove in dance songs like Never Knew Love Like This Before, 一想到你呀 (When I Think Of You), and Last Dance
My band and I had a blast of a time, especially when we see Greg and Jo and their friends (young and old) shaking their butts at the dance floor.
Band: Bevlyn, Ein Ein, Shawn, Wilson, Butter
Repertoire:
First set:
A Groovy Kind of Love, I Do (Cherish You), 喜欢你 (Liking You), Can You Feel The Love Tonight?, 星晴, Get Here, 一见钟情 (Love At First Sight), Love Will Keep Us Alive, When You Say Nothing At All, 一想到你呀 (When I Think Of You), I Knew I Loved You, 在我生命中的每一天 (Every Day In My Life)
Second set:
Everlasting Love, For Your Babies, 至少还有你 (At Least There Is You), Have I Told You Lately?, 我只在乎你 (I Only Care About You), I Only Want To Be With You, Never Knew Love Like This Before, 爱很简单 (Love Is Simple), The Way You Look Tonight, 最好的事 (The Best Thing), 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), Last Dance
Songs To Recommend:
It is probably not the most appropriate wedding song, but I was thrilled to know Greg and Jo wanted Get Here in the songlist. It aptly shows the desire for a partner.
Another one of my all-time favourite is 一想到你呀 (When I Think Of You). The lyrics is mind-freeing while the music is reminiscent of the indigenous Taiwanese and very much spirit-lifting.
Wedding Tips:
(1) Spend time to mingle with your friends
(2) Get your close friends to make a toast
(3) Have a romantic first dance
(4) Engage a 5-piece band (with bass and percussion) if budget permits
