Ivan's Thoughts: 甜蜜蜜 (Honey Sweet)

We found out that there was a romantic story behind Feng-Ji and Jane's choice for their 1st march-in song - 陪我看日出 (1st March-in) (Watch The Sunrise With Me). Before they got together, Feng-Ji had asked Jane to meet him at 6am to watch the sunrise together, and his request was turned down by Jane as it was too early. Jane eventually agreed when he proposed 6.30am instead!

The couple also had a detailed 13-page 'Wedding Handbook' - one of the most comprehensive wedding programmes that we have ever seen. This is because they had several distinguished VIPs among their guests (which included Ministers and MPs) and they wanted them, and the rest of the 600 over guests, to be well-taken of.

After having a sumptuous meal of some mixed seafood, we kicked off the first set with some pop-jazz numbers. We got a lot of applause when Hui Bing started to do some Mandarin pop numbers and songs like 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart) and 甜蜜蜜 (Honey Sweet).

Hui Bing got the most "fans" of the day, since several people came up to compliment her singing and ask for her contact.

As for the bride, I really thought she looked like a local TV artiste! Take a look:

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Can't Take My Eyes Off You

Jeremy got it right when he began his speech by quoting a line he found on the Internet, "It's not about finding someone to live with for the rest of your life, it's about finding someone you can't live without."

After seven years of courtship, he knew, without a doubt, that Hui Li was the one for him.

Hui Li, the lovely bride, was even more effusive in her praise. Jeremy was her knight in shining armour, the fulfillment of her childhood dream. She also hoped that everyone in the ballroom would find someone who meant as much as Jeremy meant to her.

The celebration was marked by expressions of love, not just in spoken words, but spontaneous actions. I planted a little seed of a thought in Jeremy's head when I asked him, before the banquet began, if he'd like to sing a song for Hui Li. He dismissed the idea initially, but that seed grew and grew, until he volunteered himself for the task when I went to him again.

Hui Li covered her mouth in surprise, and even asked him not to go ahead. My guess is that Jeremy felt so high that he really threw caution to the wind. Of course, I aided his bravado by promising him help should he need it. He didn't.

He sang his chosen song, "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" without any hitches; in fact, he felt so comfortable he was moving his body to the music. Everyone applauded him when he finished, and he went back to Hui Li with a huge smile on his face.

It was a really satisfying night for me. Quite a number of guests came up to us and complimented our performance, especially Serene's smoky, soulful vocals. And when I walked past a table, one lady called out to me and said, "Thank you for singing Lucky. This is the best wedding I've ever attended, with a live band!" The pleasure was all mine, thank you.

To Jeremy and Hui Li - we had a blast! Thank you so much for engaging us. May you both enjoy a blissful, joyous marriage, with "busloads" (that's what Charles said, I recall) of children!

Songs To Recommend:

For The Longest Time (video) - A Billy Joel classic. One of my favourite a capella songs!

Suddenly I See - Serene got a lot of applause for this groovy number!

Seasons Of Love - For fans of musicals, this song needs no further introduction. Not entirely suitable for a wedding, but it's one of Hui Li's favourites.

Bevlyn's Thoughts: If We Hold On Together

I was deeply touched by this particular stanza in one of Fang Ting's emails, :

I don't think I can find anyone except Mr Wong Shuhong who can do anything, everything and nothing with me! That's so much things we love doing together, skating, music, playing boardgames and computer games, driving out at night when there's a sudden yoghurt or ice-cream cravings and so on. Even when I picked up knitting, he tagged along and picked up knitting with me. I have Shuhong to do even the stupidest, craziest, lamest thing with me. Even when we are doing nothing, we are just fine laughing at each other's not funny jokes.

Did Fang Ting actually mention KNITTING??!!

With such chemistry, it was no wonder that Shu Hong proposed to Fang Ting only 1 month after they starting dating (she accepted of course). I don't know about you, but it counts as one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever heard.

And as taking keyboard lessons was one of the many things which catapulted their relationship further, the couple decided to perform a song "Bless the Broken Road" by Rascal Flatt. In Shu Hong's words, "We have been training and we thought we sound rather good, so we'll like to share it with you". And indeed, I was blown-away by their good performance standard. In fact I thought it to be an excellent idea that Fang Ting sang while Shu Hong accompanied her on keyboard - it was something they could prepare and do together as husband and wife to mark their union on the wedding day.

Matthew played the instrumental version of "If We Hold On Together" for the 1st march-in, trying his best to follow what Fang Ting had passed to us:

It was my first time performing at the Jade Site 1, and I love the sunset and the sea breeze! If you love the sand and the sea, this is the place. Basically the whole banquet is set on the beach so you have sand beneath your shoes, that's as natural as it gets!

We'd love to thank Fang Ting and Shu Hong to have us serenade their guests with our music. Here's wishing them endless days of good fun and happiness to come. Cheers!!

Hi Bevlyn,

Greetings from Japan! Didn't had time to write this until now.

Really want to thank you and your band for the wonderful performance that night. I wish I could just sit down and enjoy the live music! I was really touched when you sang Teresa Tseng's 我只在乎你。(I Only Care About You).

Please help us thank Matthew too. The march in song was perfect!

Love,
Fang Ting & Shuhong
