Hsin Yeow's thoughts: 我是幸福的 (I'm Lucky)

Eugene, a photographer friend of mine, recently wrote in his blog that there were too many coincidences in his December weddings to ignore. For example, he took photos for weddings held a week apart, but at the same church, and with the same priest. Talk about déjà vu!

Here are my contributions to add on to the string of coincidences that seems to mark December weddings, in particular the two weddings I performed at on 9 December.

The first coincidence: Kenny (groom of afternoon reception at Regent Hotel) and Schmike (groom of dinner reception at Meritus Mandarin) both share the same Chinese name, Yong Qiang!

Both weddings also featured surprises and special singing performances.

We love surprises, so we were thrilled when Lynette told us she had engaged the band as a surprise for her husband Kenny. We tried to be discreet while conducting our sound checks, so Kenny never suspected a thing.

When he and Lynette made their first entrance to the band's live performance of For The First Time, he was convinced that the hotel arranged for the band because its CD player was not working!

After the thank-you speech, Lynette bravely took the microphone and sang Fish Leong's 我是幸福的 (I'm Lucky).


In the picture above, Kenny's head was turned to one side because he was trying very hard to control his tears. I don't think he succeeded. When Lynette finished, I realised that I was so moved by her performance I had to compose myself before I could continue singing.

Lynette, thank you so much for engaging us to perform for you and Kenny, and giving us the opportunity to witness a romantic and beautiful wedding. Congratulations!

Once again, thank you so much for the splendid performance. We enjoyed it very much the only regret is that Kenny and I didn't manage to listen to most of the songs that both of you sang.

A lot of my guests gave compliments, and said that you have a very nice vocal; Hsin Yeow had a nice deep voice and that all of you put up a wonderful performance!

I have given your contacts to a few of my guests, and hopefully when they hire you, I get to enjoy your performance throughout.
