Hsin Yeow's thoughts: 天天想你 (Thinking Of You Every Day)
Ben didn't have an easy time winning Linda's heart.
Being Linda's personal chauffeur didn't work. Apparently Ben bought his first car to pick Linda up from school and send her to work on time. It took Ben at least three tries before Linda agreed to be his girlfriend. God knows how many times Ben proposed, but suffice it to say, he didn't succeed the first time.
Nevertheless, Ben persisted because he knew Linda was The One for him. Linda had given him emotional support during a time when Ben's career stalled. Instead of giving up on Ben, Linda's belief in him was immensely comforting. So Ben threw caution to the wind and blew half his savings on a large rock. This time, he succeeded.
After learning about how they got together, I dedicated 天天想你 (Thinking Of You Every Day) to Ben, as I felt that the lyrics could have mirrored his feelings during those times when his love was unrequited. Ben clearly knew the song, because he guffawed and clapped just before I sang it.
Congratulations Linda and Ben! Thank you for reading this blog and being so supportive of us. It was a pleasure to perform for you and your guests!
P.S. Many thanks to Gordon of Wedding Matters for recommending us!

小酒窝 (Dimples), 有你真好 (It's So Good To Have You), 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), The Look Of Love, 爱很简单 (Love Is Very Simple), Blue Moon, Something Stupid, I'm Beginning To See The Light, 你是我心内的一首歌 (You're A Song In My Heart), Sway, Kiss Me, Overjoyed

- Not a typical wedding song, but I fell in love with the melody and the emotions behind the lyrics

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: You Mean The World To Me
You never know what you might gain from a road trip with friends.
For Johann, it was the opportunity to be in close contact with the lovely Calista, who stole Johann's heart. Hartono, Johann's childhood friend who introduced Calista to Johann, was understandably ectastic. He had so much to say he didn't need a script at all, as words came spilling out of him.
"I'm not surprised that Johann fell for Calista. I mean, just look at her. Isn't she beautiful?" Hartono asked. A rhetoric question, of course, for Calista looked amazing that afternoon.
Hartono's speech was one of many. Another confident speaker was Mr Christer Ekberg, Calista's boss. He went onstage with one single purpose: to wax lyrical about Calista as a driven and capable person. I could tell Mr Ekberg treated Calista almost like his daughter.

Mr Ekberg giving a speech
As a 'reward' for staying until the end of the lunch, Johann and Calista prepared some surprises for the guests. They arranged for plastic rings to be hidden in the dessert, and the guests who found them received dining vouchers from St Regis.
Bevlyn, James, Fabian and I had a great time performing at the wedding. My favourite moment was when I sang "Give Me Forever (I Do)" for the couple's first dance. Watching Johann and Calista dance to live music made me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Congratulations Calista and Johann!

You Mean The World To Me - a great wedding song from Toni Braxton!
2009 was slow off the starting blocks, but swiftly gained momentum around September and ended in an exhausting sprint to the finish line.
It's really hard to describe the emotions that swirled in me when I reviewed our report card of 300 weddings in 2009. If I add the corporate functions and other events we were occasionally engaged for, we performed on almost every single day of last year, on average.
That's an amazing achievement for us.
And I couldn't be more grateful to the couples who placed their trust in us to deliver quality live music, and to the 40 talented singers and musicians who perform regularly with us.
To celebrate, we had a little gathering at Nazt Bistro recently. Over almost three hours of great food and drinks, we talked, laughed and shared memories (and gossip). Take a look at the photos below.
Two months into 2010, and it seems as though we're off to a mad sprint again. Until we meet again, here's to life, and may your days be filled with joy, laughter and music!
So here's to life
and all the joy it brings
here's to life
to dreamers and their dreams
may all your storms be weathered
and all that's good get better
here's to life, here's to love, here's to you

Tanya's Thoughts: Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You
The magnificent and grand ballroom, resplendent with large chandeliers and lovely sweet pink decor, couldn't be a better place for Hazel and Wei Pin to hold their wedding celebration. And we were indeed honoured to be a part of their night of revelry.
The two female emcees did a fantastic job of keeping the guests well-entertained with their gregarious bantering and sharing with the crowd snippets of trivia about the bride and groom, as well as the couple's love story.
After the traditional toasting ceremony, there was a surprise segment where one of the brothers performed "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You", and the couple were made to act in accordance to the lyrics. This definitely caught the bride and groom by surprise! The sporting couple gamely stepped up to the challenge and had the guests in guffaws with their antics on stage.
The guests were very appreciative of our performance and that really made our day. Thank you Hazel and Wei Pin for giving us the opportunity to be part of the joyous occasion tonight. Here's wishing you all the happiness in the word and happy married life to you both!

Adeline's thoughts: 就是爱你 (Just Love You)
What makes a wedding special and memorable is when a couple adds a personal touch to it. For Chay Pin and Lulu, they decided to sing for their 2nd march-in (今天你要嫁给我 - Marry Me Today).
And I must say they did a really good job. With smiles from cheek to cheek, holding each other’s hand, looking into their partner’s eyes and singing the song as they walked down the aisle, it was a love declaration with an element of fun. (By the way, Chay Pin was sporting enough to persevere and learn the harmony for the chorus bit too. His efforts definitely paid off.) Wait... there’s more.
Chay Pin was going to play the guitar and sing 就是爱你 (Just Love You) to his bride, as she stood next to him. It was a beautiful moment. And of course, all the hours of practicing for the song paid off for Chay Pin. Thumbs Up.
We really enjoyed playing for the couple and their guests. They were most responsive to the songs we played whether instrumental or with vocals. When Imelda sang 给我一个吻 (Give Me A Kiss), there were many flying kisses then went up in the air from the audience. She definitely built up an “Uncle & Auntie” fan-base there with that song and with other Teresa Teng hot favourites like 甜蜜蜜 (Honey Sweet).
Our heartfelt congratulations to Chay Pin and Lulu. Thank you for engaging us at your wedding. We hope you’ve enjoyed yourselves as much as we have playing for you.
Hsin Yeow's additional thoughts: The Look Of Love
How would you feel if you've just met the girl of your dreams? Well, Chay Pin puts it quite nicely:
"We met amongst friends. She was wearing a slim white dress and was full of smiles. I thought she was beautiful, smart, eloquent and elegant. I decided to get to know her better.
We dated for a while. One night, after a nice wine tasting event, as we talked over dinner, a sudden spark ignited between us. We got together soon after.
Lulu is the girl of my dreams. She shares my values for family and relationship. To me she is the most beautiful woman in the world. I knew that she is the one. I told myself I will love and protect this girl forever.
On 8/8/2009, after coming back from a business trip in Malaysia, I asked Lulu out. I brought her to the rooftop of a nice hotel by the pool. Under the full moon, I asked Lulu to marry me. She said "yes". My heart blossomed. That was the happiest thing I heard last year."

L-R: Brad, Imelda, Chay Pin, Lulu, Adeline, Regi
Repertoire:
Wedding March (1st march-in), All Of Me, Cheek To Cheek, Unforgettable, Longer, Just The Way You Are, I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing, The Way You Look Tonight, 甜蜜蜜 (Honey Sweet), 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), 给我一个吻 (Give Me A Kiss), Close To You, Dream A Little Dream, Fallen, Have I Told You Lately, L-O-V-E, The Nearness Of You, Quando Quando Quando, When You Say Nothing At All, Time After Time, The Look Of Love
Compliments:
Dear Hsin Yeow,
Thanks so much! We just got back from our honeymoon and we're still thinking of our beautiful wedding.
The band was absolutely great! The songs were fantastic. Imelda was gorgeous and sang so beautifully. With Imelda as emcee I didn't have to worry about the programme at all!
Adeline was also great! She played along with me very nicely while I sang with my guitar!
Thanks!

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: How Deep Is Your Love?
Andy and Yingmei's love story is A Tale Of Two Cities. Read on...
In Andy's words:
"Both of us went to the same faculty in NUS. However, we met only for the first time in wintery Shanghai three yrs ago. She was on her vacation while I was working there. We were introduced by a mutual good friend Jingling, and we went out for dinner together as a group.
We clicked over food and travel (mostly food for me) and kept in touch after her return to Singapore. Our long distance relationship blossomed and endured.
Between 2007 and 2009, we took turns to visit each other during the holidays. I proposed to Yingmei in Shanghai with 99 red roses, a teddy bear and a ring. Thankfully, I am now based in Singapore.
I love her sweetness, kindness and thoughtfulness. She likes my 'handsome-ness' mostly."
Haha, thanks for sharing your story with me Andy. And I'm really glad Jerome, Christina and Feri entertained your guests.
Congratulations to you and Yingmei once again!

Band: Jerome, Christina, Feri

L-R: Feri, Jerome, Andy, Yingmei, Christina

Repertoire:
情非得已 (I Can't Help It), I Do (Cherish You) (First March In), Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Grow Old With You, How Deep Is Your Love, It Might Be You, The Gift, Valentine, 约定 (Date), 每天爱你多一些 (Every Day I Love You More), 至少还有你 (At Least There Is You), Truly Madly Deeply (2nd March-in)
Compliments from Andy:

Hey Hsin Yeow,
Thanks for your help.
Yingmei and I were running around and didn't get to hear much, which is a pity. But my guests gave the thumbs up. And that's great for us already.
Thanks,
Andy

Matthew's thoughts: So Nice
Not just another Sunday lunch wedding - it was held at Fullerton's Straits Room, a small 18-table capacity room that has windows which allows the hotel's skylight to flow in. Very pretty.
Anyway, it was an intimate setting because they only had about 8 tables, which they split into about 4 on each side. Here's the special part, the couple had their VERY OWN TABLE FOR TWO at the foot of the stage!
Imagine a small little italian-restaurant-ish table set for two, complete with tall candle. Too bad couples can't really enjoy the entire lunch, as they spent most of their time mingling with their guests.
But this cool couple skipped the second-march-in part, and went straight to the speech right after their champagne pouring sequence.
But fortunately, it seems from their feedback that they were enjoying our music (yay!) The hotel provided a very nice upright grand piano (Yamaha U5) that was really all you need to fill the room with its sound (that's how small the room was - it's not exactly Suntec Convention Centre.)
Congratulations, Johnny and Jennifer!

Band: Hui Bing, Matthew
Repertoire:
La Vie En Rose (March In), Dream A Little Dream, So Nice, Quando Quando Quando, Cest Si Bon, Fallen, I Say A Little Prayer, Grow Old With you, Everlasting Love, Come Away With Me, When You Say Nothing At All, Through The Years
一人一半 (One Half), 陪我看日出 (Watching The Sunrise With Me), 黑白配 (Black And White), The Rose, The Look Of Love, If I Ain't Got You, I Will Follow You Into The Dark, You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, L-O-V-E, I'm Yours, That's All
Compliments:

Hi there,
Personally, we think that Hui Bing sang beautifully and really delivered the mood that we both wanted for our wedding. We love how her voice and together with Matthew on the piano, delivered the most romantic and light hearted mood for our wedding lunch.
Some of our guests thought that we were playing from a CD :) . Some guests felt that they were gentle and soft, but that's what exactly we wanted!
Although some of our guests may be slower to warm up and were not as responsive as expected, they still enjoy themselves tremendously with our songs selection and the performance of the duet.
Thanks for much for making our wedding event a sweet and romantic one.

Jackie's family, the Yau family, came all the way from Hong Kong. The ladies were all very slim and elegantly and fashionably dressed, e.g. Jackie's mom wore a short champagne dress with a ketupat weave for the solemnisation and a champagne fur-trimmed cheongsam for the dinner, while his sister-in-law wore a Grecian draped gown showing off an unbelievably trim figure despite her having two children.
Jackie's brother was in a suit with a great cut and very stylish update on the bow-tie/cravat that was just a plain black band around the collar, 2 children of the former: older boy was the ring-bearer in an impeccable tux, younger girl was one of the flower girls in what looked like a full bridal gown with embroidery and beading.
Solemnisation on the lawn was a gorgeous affair marred only by women's high heels sinking into the soil or catching on gravel. The 2 flower girls and ring-bearer had stage fright for a few moments but eventually performed their duties beautifully.
A montage put together by the bride's best friend and maid of honour, Mel, with a lovely, candid video interview of the couple talking about how they got together, laughing and teasing each other throughout, spliced with photos from their wedding shoot.
Highlights of father of the bride, Mr. Robert Lee's amazing speech:
- Winston Churchill said that there are only two things more difficult than public speaking: trying to kiss a woman who is leaning away from you, and trying to climb a wall that is leaning towards you. Hence, I hope you don't mind that I have written my speech down.
- I am here to warm you up for Jackie's speech. So if you don't like what I have to say, it's only because I don't want to give him too hard an act to follow.
- I'm sure you will all agree with me that Clara looks absolutely stunning tonight. As for Jackie, you look simply stunned.
- Clara dresses to kill. Unfortunately, she also cooks the same way.
- It seems like only yesterday that Clara was born. She was very tanned, and already had more hair than me.
- I have this advice for you...say these words often, and you'll have a smooth-sailing marriage.
"Dear, I'm wrong; honey, you're right; sweetheart...just go ahead and buy it!""
Mr. Lee also paid tribute to his daughter as one who has always been ready to rise to the challenges she sees before her; she just earned her second degree. He also spoke of Jackie as all he could want in a son-in-law, and stated firmly that this was a match he definitely approved of. He had many friends and business associates in the ballroom who appeared well-acquainted with his eloquence and clapped and cheered him heartily throughout the speech.
Jackie, being emotional and quite overwhelmed, did not match his father-in-law's eloquence, but made up for it with great sincerity and the fact that he wrote nothing down but spoke from the heart, thanking the Lee family for taking him in as one of their own when he moved here from HK.
Very lively, chatty atmosphere throughout the dinner. Dispensed with yam seng for a very civil "Cheers" but the couple's friends were not about to let the newlyweds off so easily, and sabo'ed them when they went from table to table for photo-taking. Couldn't see what was going on but there was a lot of laughter and raised, happy voiced in an informal yam seng, and certainly a lot more drinking.
At the end of our last song, the hearty cheers and applause from audience warmed our hearts.
Hsin Yeow's additional thoughts
Sylvia of Ideas Inn asked me to recommend an emcee for Jackie and Clara's wedding. I instantly thought of Eleanor. She has extensive hosting experience, and garnered rave reviews from many satisfied couples.
After Eleanor's meeting with the couple, I was pleasantly surprised to know that Jackie and Clara decided to engage Eleanor as emcee and singer as well!
Thank you Jackie and Clara, for your faith in us. Congratulations once again!

Jo's thoughts: Sweet Pea
Kialing and Weilian decided to have a less conventional wedding - instead of the more standard hotel event, they began the rest of their wedded life literally in bloom -- at the lush and summery Orchidville, with a restaurant complete with towering trees and a riot of blossoms surrounding the dinner tables.
Of course, the lush landscape was merely the stage for our stars of the night. There's a Chinese idiom 郎才女貌, literally talented man, beautiful woman, to describe a fine couple.
This was certainly the case with Kialing looking very very delicate and fresh in her lovely gowns, like a flower herself, and a Weilian, with his disarming smile, belting out a special song dedicated to her while accompanied by his friend on his guitar. Even though Kialing did tell him 'very cheesy leh', we thought it was moving! Other highlights of the night included a gameshow style interview of the duo, complete with kiss-challenge.
In the midst of all this, Iwee and myself were having a good time performing a completely unordinary repertoire of lovely songs (take a look at the song list below!).
And obviously the bride and groom had a good handle on their guests, because the songs were met with applause and even cheers, so the band got to take part in the warm fuzzy feelings floating around Orchidville on the night!
Thank you so much Kialing and Weilian for having us. May the rest of your wedded lives be as beautiful as the night which began it!

Ariel’s thoughts: 爱很简单 (Love Is Very Simple)
I knew this was going to an amazing night the moment I met the newly weds, Ervine and Candy. They were fun-loving and showed great amount of energy prior to the wedding dinner. In fact, they dispensed with all formality and went around mingling with their loved ones and guests before the dinner, only disappearing for a brief moment to get ready for their first march in. The band was wowed when the couple’s guests also grooved when the hotel initiated the presentation of their first dish with Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling”.
We love it when the guests show any sign of appreciation. But this crowd really bowled us over with their show of support because they really clapped hard after each and every song we performed. We couldn’t help but marvel at the lives that we’ve touched with our wedding performances as one of the jie meis even came over to say hi to us, having heard us sing at Jae and Chloe’s wedding!
My favourite song of the night was 爱很简单 (Love Is Very Simple) because its lyrics resonates with my belief that love is simply about giving conditionally and sometimes showing such affection is just saying three simple words “I Love You”:
愛的地暗天黑都已無所謂 是是非非無法抉擇
沒有後悔為愛日夜去跟隨 那個瘋狂的人是我
I LOVE U 無法不愛你 BABY 說你也愛我
I LOVE U 永遠不願意 BABY 失去你
Band: Ariel, Jixiang and Ivan
Repertoire:
Canon in D (1st March-in), L-O-V-E, Close To You, So Nice, 爱很简单 (Love Is Very Simple), Angels Brought Me Here, 世界唯一的你 (The Only You In The World), 喜欢你 (Liking You), Lovin' You, Bubbly, Love Story, La Vie En Rose (2nd March-in)
Songs To Recommend:
I am also in love with the following song and I think they’re really great for weddings:
Lost in Paradise by Joanna Wang
Only Love by Tanya Chua

Bevlyn's thoughts: 恋爱ing
I'd performed countless times at Four Seasons hotel, but it was actually my first time at the Crescent ballroom. Finally!! It is a smaller ballroom compared to the main one, but the size made the wedding even more cosy and intimate. Guests were greeted by a poster made by one of the 'brothers':

The band was located just 2 arms' lengths away from Chye Lee and Lijie and we really liked that. Why? When Junxiong was singing "为你钟情" (Falling For You), Chye Lee quickly tapped on Lijie to remind her of her favourite song. The 2 of them turned toward Junxiong and watch him sing the song, which was almost solely for the two of them. A very sentimental and meaningful wedding song:
The guests were a wonderful audience to perform to. The singing along when we brought on "甜蜜蜜" (Honey Sweet), "恋爱ing", "I'm Yours", and the happy applause from the parents after "All I Ask Of You".
My favourite part of the evening had to be when Lijie's youngest brother decided to do an impromptu speech. Seeing Lijie busy taking photographs with a table of guests, he took my suggestion and said "姐!' into the mic to get her attention. "我们会想念你的". I was very impressed by his speech, because he had no script, and everything was from the heart. Very sensible for his age :)
Thank you Chye Lee and Lijie for giving us such wonderful memories at your wedding. Here's wishing you many years of bliss and happiness in this new path together!

L-O-V-E (2nd march), 幸福摩天輪 (Ferris Wheel Of Happiness), 小手拉大手 (Small Hands Holding Big Hands), 恋爱ing, I'm Yours, Grow Old with You, 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), 你的名字我的姓氏 (Your Name With My Surname), 恋爱频率 (Love Frequency)
Compliments from Chye Lee & Lijie: Thank You For The Music
Hi Bevlyn, Junxiong, Matthew & Gavin,
Just like the song by Abba, we wanna thank you for the music! :) Cos without your songs and music, what would our wedding banquet have been? You definitely livened up the atmosphere with your beautiful voices, not forgetting the lovely melodies from our fav piano and the ever sexy saxophone..
The only regret is we couldn't sit down and enjoy each and every song, esp All I Ask of You. Guess we can only hope that it's captured in one of the videos :)
Thanks again for the memories and we wish you all good health and many blessings in the lunar new year!
Warmest regards,
Chye Lee + Lijie

Ian's Thoughts: Thank you For Loving Me
What a massive, massive wedding this was! Over 100 tables, I was told. Amongst the notable guests in attendance were the Minister for Law, and MP for Hong Kah GRC.
It was a night of two celebrations as the couple had chosen to wed on the same lunar date- only 56 years later- as the groom's paternal grandparents. Beneficiaries of the family's altruistic lineage were present to celebrate the new couple with plaques and gifts as the patriarch presented generous donations to representatives of several organisations, amongst them Ren Ci.
On the music side of things, it was a fresh change to be playing an all-english set, and I was working with Sofyan and Brad for the first time. Everyone was very well-prepared for this gig; Brad in particular, who didn't need to be told when to come in and knew all the changes - cheers!
The couple had picked some difficult tunes for us this time! Guitar-driven songs I'll Be There For You (Bon Jovi) and Fire (Bruce Springsteen) was an odd choice for a piano-saxophone combo. It was a challenge we grabbed by the horns and was nothing we couldn't handle.

As an aside, I would like to thank the staff of Shangri-la Hotel events department (Veronica, Serene) for their swift action in locating and safekeeping my piano bench, which I'd left behind in the ballroom that night.

Tanya's Thoughts: 但愿人长久 (Eternal Love)
Steven and Chei Pin had a very warm and cosy wedding dinner celebration. The photo montage that took us through their childhood to their adult years and shots of them together had some poignant moments, and showed how their endearing love story finally led to a happily-after-ending.
The highlight of the night's events had to be the food presentation. When the music played and fanciful lights came on, the doors opened and everyone probably pretty much expected lines of waiters/waitresses carrying plates of food walking in, as with most food presentation ceremonies at weddings.
However, to everyone's amusement and surprise, the chef decked out in his chef's outfit and hat danced his way in carrying the dish meant for the VIP table. Shaking his booty to the tune of Wondergirls' 'Nobody', the crowd broke into laughter and cheers. He even stopped by at several tables to 'interact' cheekily with a few guests.
With this, the night started on a high note. The songs we performed drew appreciative applause from the guests, for which we were very grateful for. The sense of fulfilment and satisfaction in seeing people enjoy the music while dining meant more than anything to us. Jon, Clarence and myself had a great time working together.
Here's wishing the newly-weds a lifetime of sweet and everlasting marital bliss!

Two Words (2nd March-in), Every Day I Love You, I'll Be There, I Love You, When You Say Nothing At All, You Raise Me Up, You're Still You, La Vie En Rose, 但愿人长久 (Eternal Love), 遇见 (Meeting), 我只在乎你 (I Only Care For You)

Zheng Quan's thoughts: Love Is A Powerful Spell
The story of Sean and Jean proves that love can be quite a powerful spell as it influences and changes a person dramatically.
Sean and Jean met at a mutual friend's gathering at a chalet. At that time, Sean did not leave a very good impression on Jean, who thought he was unfriendly and quite "beng" (hostile looking). However after a few days, they got to know each other better and Sean took the initiation to date Jean out, and their relationship developed from then on. 12 years later, Jean has completely changed Sean from an "Ah beng" to a gentleman he is today. During Sean's thank you speech on the wedding night, he specifically thanked his wife and some friends who came into his life and changed him into a better person.
That evening I arrived at the hotel ballroom and met Sean at the reception area where he was busy ensuring all things are going well. I quickly clarified with him a few details I needed for my emceeing work, and he directed me to the banquet assistant for all other needs, including a dinner service for the band. I thought it was really thoughtful and kind of him. A nice gentlemen.
The wedding dinner commenced promptly as we welcomed Sean and Jean into the ballroom. After which, the guests were presented with the 1st dish. Then it was time for live performance from our band and I started off singing a cheery song L-O-V-E which the guests seemed to like very much. Fallen was the next song as performed by my co-singer, Serene, and it was very well received too.

The band's live music complemented the evening's program with the list of love songs Sean and Jean had specially requested earlier on. Other classic love songs included "月亮代表我的心" (The Moon Represents My Heart),"制造浪漫" (Creating Romance), "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "I Only Wanna Be With You".
The beautiful setting of the hotel's Riverfront room just added on to the lovely and homely atmosphere. We were really fortunate to have a lively audience who was so supportive and generous with their applause.
A big thank you to Sean and Jean for leaving their trust in us to entertain their guests and also letting me host your dinner reception. We sincerely wish you guys happiness, good health and great fortune!

L-O-V-E, Corcovado (Quiet Nights & Quiet Stars), Fallen, I Only Wanna Be With You, Kiss Me, Pretty World, Wishes, You Gotta Be, 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), 遇見 (Encounter), Can't Take My Eyes Off You
You're The Sunshine Of My Life (2nd march-in), Over The Rainbow, Stand By Me, Way Back Into Love, Quando Quando Quando, 制造浪漫 (Creating Romance), 今天你要嫁給我 (Marry Me Today), Valentine, Grow Old With You, I'm Yours, Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Compliments from Sean:

Hi Bev,
I can't really tell how well they sang since I was too busy running around. But I heard fantastic feedback from my guests. A few wanted to get contacts to engage in their coming wedding. I guess this is clear indication of a successful performance.
I would like to thank A Little Dream for a job fantastically performed. I would say money well spent.
Thanks,
Sean

Thanks,
Sean
Hsin Yeow's thoughts: Destiny
Exchanging e-mails with Jamie was a delight, because her writing had a very conversational tone; it felt as if I was just sitting in front of her, sharing a cup of coffee and chatting.
Jamie: "We were secondary school classmates, and actually dated for a short period during our school days. However, during then it didn’t work out & we lost contact aft we left school. It was until years later that we coincidentally bumped into each other again, and that was the spark we needed to give our relationship another try."
Hsin: "Thanks Jamie, for sharing this with me. What can you tell me about Elison?"
Jamie: "My husband places his career first, and always believes in doing well in his work, but he's totally oblivious to the nitty gritty of family life - totally exasperating! But at times, the little things that I don’t think he even bothers, he actually has been quietly listening in & making plans… For example, I made a casual remark to go have dinner at Jewel box for dinner. And within the next few weeks, he actually made a reservation to bring me there for my birthday celebration. That meant a lot to me."
Later on, Elison joined in the conversation, to tell me about their favourite activity.
Elison: "My wife and I will used to travel around in my previous car (small old Nissan March), to find good food. Most of the memories during our courtship days were in this car. And I remembered that she actually cried when we handed over our Nissan March to be traded in for our current car."
Destiny certainly played in big part in igniting that spark of love between them, after spending many years apart. Hence, I started the evening with a beautiful song called My Destiny.
The audience responded warmly to our songs, and to further engage them, I asked if they would like to send in some dedications. In a matter of minutes, the first dedication slip came, bearing the title of a song and a message for the couple. After Ariel and I sang performed the song, the second slip was presented to us. I had opened the floodgates, and we were soon inundated with dedications! Here's proof:

We realised that we had to totally abandon the set list just to sing the dedications (with the couple's blessings, of course.) Luckily, James was a real trooper, and had a treasury of tunes residing in him. With my trusty stack of lyrics, Ariel, James and I sang as many dedications as we could. The audience's enthusiastic response and cheering at the end of our performance made the effort totally worth it.
Thank you, Jamie and Elison, for the opportunity to perform at your wedding. Congratulations, and here's wishing you good health, love and joy!
Band: Hsin Yeow, Ariel, James

Audience requests:

Compliments:

Dear Hsin Yeow,
Apologies for being late in our reply, Elison & I just got back from our short trip.
Thank you very much for your performance on our wedding, it was such a pity that we could not sit around and hear more of the songs that we have selected, which meant so much to us both.
Time was so short, and things were in such a frenzy, and I felt so sorry that we have only exchanged that few brief words.
From my understanding, there were an overwhelming response of dedications during the wedding, I bet the guests enjoyed themselves thoroughly, and I trust that should be a true testimony of your team's performance.
Thank you once again, I do look forward to hearing more of A Little Dream in other weddings.
Best Regards,
Elison & Jamie

Bevlyn's thoughts: What A Difference A Day Made
It's been some time since we last performed at Ritz Carlton, and I'm always awed by the grandeur of the high ceilings and the chandeliers when I'm there. Nicholas and Evelyn had every reason to be the happiest man and woman, because their dearest families and friends filled up the huge ballroom, literally lighting it up with their smiles!
The banquet commenced with two speeches by Nicholas and Evelyn's good friends. I agreed with one of them when he said, 'Evelyn looks like a million dollars. And Nicholas looks like he's just won a million dollars!" :)
Joel was happy to be on the baby grand piano, and the rest of the band members (myself on vocals, Ivan on saxophone, and Wah Yong on double bass), stood tall on an elevated platform next to the piano. With so many tables of guests to sing to, we were happy to be able to see the furthest guest away from us!
Nicholas and Evelyn went from tables to tables to mingle with their guests, while we accompanied them with our live music!
Thank you Nicholas and Evelyn! We wish you a beautiful marriage, and many bountiful babies soon!
Band: Bevlyn, Joel, Wah Yong & Ivan
So Nice, Cest Si Bon, Dream A Little Dream, A Love That Would Last, The Way You Look Tonight, Let's Fall In Love, L-O-V-E, The Nearness of You, Girl From Ipanema, Isn't It Romantic, La Vie En Rose
Everything, Come Fly With Me, Let There Be Love, Pretty World, Home, Bubbly, What A Difference A Day Makes, Fallen, Quando Quando Quando, Can't Take My Eyes Off You

Jo's thoughts: My Heart Will Go On
While big ballrooms are beautiful, it's a whole new level of lovely to experience a wedding peopled entirely by all of 40 close relatives and friends, in the sparkling setting of La Cantina, a rave reviewed Italian bistro complete with a breezy outdoor pool and an azure sea view from the rooftop of Changi Village Hotel.

Gorgeous view
Each of the exclusive group of guests was wonderful, smiley and supportive, but the loveliest were naturally our bride Andrene and our groom Eddy, who rather than taking their places of honour at a special VIP table, moved their seats from table to table to speak to and thank each and every one of their guests.
While Andrene looked beautiful and beamed graciously and gracefully, Eddy was the undisguisedly happy host who came up to the mike to exhort everybody (including us) to enjoy themselves, and to drink, while leading by example. He also sang a rousing Cantonese song to Andrene (which had the whole restaurant, including an amused Andrene, joining in for the chorus) twice, and encoring another Cantonese song where he pulled up all his male relatives and gregarious pals in a testosterone-charged chorus. It was quite funny to notice that each time he came up to sing, he said that it would be the last time, but of course with the screams of support that a rockstar in a concert would get, one last time would never be enough!

Eddy was accompanied by the very talented Kim-Chye, who was also my guitarist for the night -- lucky me. We did several jazz love songs, a dedication of My Heart Will Go On, and in view of the impending Chinese New Year, also worked out a special rendition of 爱拼才会赢 (Ai Piah Cia Eh Yia) (Strive In Love To Win) with opportunities for enhanced Getai-style vibrato. If the cheers were anything to go by, the guests seemed to like it, and a very obliging Eddy gave us a few standing ovations.
It was a real pleasure playing for such a wonderful couple surrounded by all their warm and obviously tightly knit friends and family. If the first day is anything to go by, we think Andrene and Eddy are going to have a very blessed and happy wedded life ahead.
P.S. Thanks, Gordon (of Wedding Matters) for recommending us!

Hsin Yeow's thoughts: 我要你的爱 (I Want Your Love)
Connie and Brennan put in a lot of effort to planning their wedding celebration. For one, they enquired about our services more than nine months before their wedding day.
They also thought of a novel way to present the wedding favours. Even before they entered the ballroom, they arranged for the emcee to announce the serving of dinner. Just when the guests were scratching their heads, the wait staff opened the dish covers to reveal handmade thank-you notes! Kudos to Connie and Brennan!
Through a very detailed video, we learnt that Brennan first tried to get into Connie's good books by showing off his bowling skills. However, things didn't work out at first, and they drifted apart for a period of time. When they got back together a second time, they worked hard at maintaining the relationship, which finally led to a proposal in Bintan, while they were both on a jetski!
Brennan didn't have an easy time fetching Connie that morning. We watched another video which showed Brennan peeling bananas, wearing a bra, dancing with a pole, acting a skit, and pretending to sweet talk another guy wearing a blonde wig. The bridesmaids really took him through the paces!
In between the videos, Hui Bing, Matthew, Jon and I performed popular wedding songs such as Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You, Inside Your Heaven and Amazed. We jazzed it up with 我要你的爱 (I Want Your Love) and Fly Me To The Moon, and kept the guests entertained.
Congratulations, Connie and Brennan! Thank you for engaging us for your wedding. Here's wishing you good health and happiness always!

I Finally Found Someone (2nd march-in), That’s What Friends Are For, Quando Quando Quando, Sway, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, 我要你的爱 (I Want Your Love), Falling For You, Fly Me To The Moon, I Need You, Endless love, Love Will Keep Us Alive
